Do you know how, in the Star Dou Forest of Douluo Continent, a fox with only ten years of cultivation caught a hundred-year Soft Bone Rabbit?
First, he blocked off every rabbit hole, leaving only two exits, one in front and one behind. Then he found some dry leaves and rubbed them rapidly between his little paws. With the support of his ten years of Soul Power, it did not take long to start a fire, which he stuffed into the front exit.
Finally, he only needed to wait at the rear exit with a wooden stick. In just a quarter of an hour, he could reap an entire nest of rabbits.
This ten-year fox was called Xia Yi, a name he had given himself. He did not know why he had chosen such a name.
He did not even know what a name was. He simply felt that this was what he ought to be called.
Xia Yi was in a good mood today. He had deliberately killed two hundred-year Soft Bone Rabbits and let the rest go.
After running to a stream to clean out their innards, Xia Yi built another fire. Once the rabbits were roasted golden on both sides, he began wolfing them down.
If anyone had seen this, they would have been scared to death. Since when had a ten-year Soul Beast possessed such high intelligence?
Crack!
At the sound of a snapping branch, Xia Yi, who had been feasting heartily, instantly became alert. He swiftly shoved the fire into the stream before him.
Only after erasing every trace of himself did he slip into the nearby bushes and run toward the source of the sound.
A human. A child. At most Two-Ring. I can make a move. Xia Yi crouched atop a towering ancient tree, his gaze turning cold.
At that moment, he had no idea that from this day onward, his fate would undergo earth-shaking changes.
"Miss Gu Yue, are you entering the Star Dou Forest?"
A dam—a Metal Dam, an enormous Metal Dam.
The gigantic Metal Dam stood over three hundred meters tall. Looking upward along it, one could see an almost transparent barrier above the dam.
The entire Metal Dam resembled a massive cage, as though it were imprisoning something terrifying.
Outside the cage, black mechas dozens of meters tall patrolled around the clock without interruption.
Every mecha radiated a murderous aura. Their powerful presence alone inspired fear.
The girl they called Gu Yue ignored them. She merely raised her head and silently stared at the endless Metal Cage before her. Her delicate fists clenched involuntarily, and from gripping them too hard, her fair, supple hands had turned pale from restricted blood flow.
Gu Yue looked to be around ten years old. She was not exceptionally beautiful, merely delicate and refined. She had long black hair, black eyes, and a well-proportioned figure that was above average for her age. Her large eyes shone brightly.
"Miss Gu Yue, are you entering the Star Dou Forest?" A black mecha slowly descended before Gu Yue. Rather than becoming angry at being ignored, it respectfully bowed to her.
Though they were far stronger than Gu Yue was now, her status in the Spirit Pagoda was far beyond their reach.
If they offended Gu Yue, they would pay dearly for it.
Gu Yue nodded, still saying nothing. She simply handed over an identity card.
The mecha accepted Gu Yue's identity card and lightly swiped it through an instrument inside its body. An electronic voice immediately sounded. "Gu Yue. Identity confirmed. Passage permitted."
As one metal gate after another opened, Gu Yue slowly entered the enormous cage.
Surprisingly, such a massive cage contained a vibrant primeval forest. Not only did towering ancient trees reach into the clouds, but the place was filled with the chirping of insects and birds.
The unique fragrance of nature in the air was even more intoxicating.
That was right. This was the Star Dou Forest, the Star Dou Forest that had existed ever since the Mountain Dragon King became the continent. Its legacy stretched back over a million years.
After entering the Star Dou Forest, Gu Yue's tightly clenched fists gradually relaxed. She began greedily breathing in the natural aura of the forest. Only after a long while did she move again, slowly heading deeper into the woods.
Once she entered the Star Dou Forest, Gu Yue seemed to have returned home and completely let down her guard.
She did not even notice when she stepped on a branch and snapped it.
Gu Yue did not know that this branch she had carelessly broken had nearly cost her life.
Just as Xia Yi did not know that his fate would change drastically from this day forward, Gu Yue did not know that today might become her nightmare.
"Squeak!" A slightly pained cry sounded. Gu Yue instinctively turned her head and saw a white fox the size of a house cat hanging in the air not far from her.
Looking closely, Gu Yue discovered that the White Fox's paws were entangled in vines, the other end of which hung from a branch more than ten meters above the ground.
As the White Fox struggled, the vines seemed to tighten further and further.
A ten-year Little Fox? Poor little thing! Sigh, who told me I'm your Lord? Gu Yue helplessly shook her head inwardly. A Wind Blade flew from her hand and swiftly cut through the vines.
She lightly pushed off the ground with both feet, leaping gracefully like an Elf. She quickly arrived beneath the vines and accurately caught the falling White Fox.
Only then did Gu Yue realize how exceptionally beautiful this fox was. His snow-white fur was as pristine as jade and brimming with spirit, carrying an air of holiness and nobility.
His bright, almond-shaped eyes gazed tenderly at Gu Yue. With the slightest smile, he actually made Gu Yue feel inferior. One smile could topple a city; another could topple a kingdom.
His only flaw was that behind him was completely bare. He did not have a single tail.
Gu Yue noticed that as well. Holding him, she examined him again and again before asking, "Little fellow, was it bitten off by another Soul Beast?"
"Forget it. I won't see Wulin for a month during the break, so I'll keep you around to keep me company." At the thought of Tang Wulin, Gu Yue immediately revealed a sweet smile.
However, in the instant Gu Yue let her guard down, the White Fox suddenly sprang up. His hind legs kicked hard against her chest as his claws shot out and slashed fiercely at her throat.
That was right. This White Fox was Xia Yi. He had waited so long for this chance to kill her with a single strike.
He had once used this move to instantly kill a Three-Ring human Soul Master.
But today, he had met his match. Gu Yue reacted astonishingly quickly, far surpassing other Three-Ring Soul Masters. Her Soul Power erupted. Though she had no time to use a soul skill, with the cultivation of a Two-Ring Soul Grandmaster, she could absolutely have blasted Xia Yi out of her arms.
After all, Xia Yi was only a ten-year Soul Beast, and he lacked any powerful bloodline. He was pitifully weak.
No matter how many little Soul Beasts like Xia Yi came at her, they would not be her match.
But this time, just like Xia Yi, Gu Yue had encountered a tough opponent. Xia Yi's combat skills were exceptionally refined. At the instant Gu Yue's Soul Power erupted, he had already grabbed her clothes and flipped onto her back.
"Ah!" Gu Yue let out a high-pitched scream. She felt a burning pain in her neck as blood streamed out uncontrollably.
Though she had reacted quickly enough to prevent Xia Yi from tearing open her throat, his claws had still struck her neck squarely.
Worst of all, Xia Yi had actually used his hind paws to push off her chest. Even through her clothes, he had left two fox paw prints on her chest, and the pain was no less severe than the pain in her neck.
"Defying your superior—you deserve to die." Gu Yue was furious. This Xia Yi was too hateful. Did he have no sense of what places he should and should not touch?
She had completely forgotten that Xia Yi was only a Little Fox with ten years of cultivation. Having grown up in the Star Dou Forest, how could he possibly understand such things?
To him, as long as he could kill Gu Yue, this "human," any method was acceptable.
