Its technological advantage is described as unmatched for at least the following ten to twenty years at the time FY-01 first challenges one of its major firms. 26

Its influence extends through technology transfer and global industrial supply chains. Eagle Country-origin technology is described as having passed through the Little Country and the island before reaching the mainland, while foreign control of core technologies leaves domestic industries vulnerable. 31 37

Eagle Country’s materials sector is represented prominently by King Material, a century-old multinational company with over 60,000 products spanning industry, chemicals, electronics, communications, automobiles, aviation, and medicine. 50 King Material’s polymer optical film had dominated its field for more than half a century before Fei Yang’s FY-01 emerged. 26

Role in the Story

Sanctions against Fei Yang

After FY-01 comprehensively surpasses King Material’s polymer optical film, King Material’s China general manager seeks sanctions against Fei Yang Optics, while its Eagle Country headquarters investigates patents and considers acquiring the company. 50

Eagle Country subsequently imposes sanctions and export/import controls targeting Fei Yang Optics, threatening its access to electronic-grade PI film and other supply-chain resources. 57 The restrictions are later expanded to prohibit Fei Yang Optics and Fei Yang New Material from importing relevant production equipment and measuring instruments, while also barring their products from export to Eagle Country. 101

Fei Yang counters the initial blockade by independently supplying its raw materials and developing FY-02, reducing the sanctions’ intended impact. 52 57 The sanctions instead draw domestic public attention and government support toward Fei Yang. 54 56

Pursuit of Fei Yang Technology

Eagle Country-linked parties repeatedly seek access to Fei Yang’s technology. King Material evaluates patent challenges and a possible acquisition of Fei Yang Optics, but finds the company protected by major Hua Xia shareholders and difficult to purchase. 50

The NSA attempts both overt and covert methods to obtain FY-02, which it seeks for the Webb Deep Space Telescope Project. Fei Yang refuses to supply the material, leading the NSA to publicly claim it will develop an alternative itself. 150 153

Eagle Country’s Department of Energy and Oak Ridge Laboratory investigate Fei Yang’s rapid technological advances and anomalous computational data, with some personnel considering whether alien technology is involved. 281 284 Public reporting on the anomalies triggers speculation that extraterrestrial civilizations are interfering with human scientific development. 286

Competition in Advanced Technology

Eagle Country remains a major benchmark for advanced robotics, unmanned aircraft, aerospace, and computing. Its Tesla-developed humanoid robot demonstrates autonomous combat capability, provoking global concern over autonomous weapons. 264 Its precision manufacturing is still considered stronger than Fei Yang’s at one point, despite Fei Yang’s superiority in robot intelligence and battery life. 217

Its Global Hawk and MQ Reaper unmanned aircraft are described as outperforming domestic counterparts in power and endurance, reflecting Eagle Country’s early lead in drone development and deployment. 312 Eagle Country is also regarded as especially capable in advanced surface coatings, though Fei Yang later develops drone coating materials beyond its capabilities. 314

In aerospace, Eagle Country operates the Hubble space telescope and is one of only two countries described as possessing the industrial foundation to routinely launch rockets and pursue major space projects. 116 405

International Pressure and Cooperation

The Western Alliance and Intelligence Agency seek to remove Fei Yang from the ITER project, accuse it of technology theft, and use international media to isolate it over fears that it will surpass them in controlled nuclear fusion. 360 Following EAST’s three-hour sustained discharge, Eagle Country’s ITER delegation faces internal questioning and pressure over its own technical path. 365

When a highly advanced unidentified spacecraft is detected near the International Space Station, Eagle Country and Bear Country initially prepare for both investigation and possible conflict. They decide that China must also be informed because its strength and probes are needed for the investigation. 408 Eagle Country later joins China and Bear Country in a joint lunar-landing operation, with each nation assigned a separate target area on the Moon. 410
