Shrek Academy was truly run-down. Only Luo Chuan's dormitory looked relatively comfortable, and that was after he had renovated it extensively, nearly tearing it down and rebuilding it from scratch.
Early in the morning, Luo Chuan was dragged out of bed by Zhao Wuji.
"Old Zhao, are you crazy?! Why aren't you guarding the fourth test? Why are you disturbing my sleep?" Luo Chuan, still bleary-eyed, complained indignantly as Zhao Wuji grabbed the back of his collar.
"Hehe, you brat, you're almost twelve now. The dean said you'll be enrolling this year too." Zhao Wuji's face was full of flesh, and he looked fierce and intimidating, but it had no effect on Luo Chuan.
"So what if I'm enrolling? What's that got to do with me?"
Luo Chuan grumbled as he reluctantly got dressed. His clothes were as simple as ever, but neat and clean.
Zhao Wuji stood at the door with his arms folded, wearing a wicked grin. "You'll be guarding the fourth test this time!"
"What?" Luo Chuan looked incredulous. In Zhao Wuji and the others' eyes, he was nothing but a lazy slacker. Flender must have sold him out!
"Hehe, you brat, you've got some skills. Today, I want to see just how much you can hide!" Zhao Wuji gave Luo Chuan a meaningful look. Flender had told him about Luo Chuan last night. At first, he had not believed it, but Flender had no reason to lie to him.
"Teacher Zhao, don't you want to personally test this year's new students?"
"No! Brat, don't try to play tricks with me. If you can't hold down the fourth test today, hehe." Zhao Wuji wore a lecherous grin. Luo Chuan curled his lips, wiped his face with a wet towel, and said, "Let's go."
The two arrived at the small Training Field in the courtyard. Watching Luo Chuan's unconcerned expression, Zhao Wuji secretly wondered, Is this brat really as outstanding as Flender said? Damn it, he doesn't look like it at all! After all, he hasn't made it onto the Heavenly Ranking.
As the warm morning sun rose, Luo Chuan casually pulled over a wooden chair, sat down, closed his eyes, and went back to "sleep."
"Fuck!" Zhao Wuji's mouth twitched. This bastard... he's sleeping again?
"Forget it, forget it."
Zhao Wuji pulled over a small stool as well, leaned against a pillar, and began dozing off.
No one knew how much time passed before people finally arrived at the small Training Field.
Dai Mubai came before Zhao Wuji and respectfully said, "Teacher Zhao, I've brought the new students over."
Behind him, Tang San, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing stood together, curiously watching the older and younger pair nearby, each sleeping more soundly than the other.
"It's that little swindler!" Xiao Wu said. Tang San gestured for her to be quiet. Zhu Zhuqing also recognized Luo Chuan as the young man who had argued with that scruffy uncle.
Among them, only Ning Rongrong was seeing Luo Chuan for the first time. Yet she did not find him particularly striking at first glance, and soon shifted her gaze to Tang San instead. It had to be said, after the awakening of Tang San's Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, he was quite handsome—even more handsome than Dai Mubai.
Zhao Wuji slowly opened his eyes, then looked directly at Luo Chuan. Seeing that he was still asleep, he immediately kicked out.
Luo Chuan seemed to sense it. His body flashed away from the wooden chair, while the chair shattered on impact, its pieces clattering across the ground.
Zhao Wuji pressed his lips together and thought, Brat, you can't hide anymore, can you?
Luo Chuan's reaction had been completely instinctive. He then rubbed his eyes and shot Zhao Wuji a glance. "Old Zhao!"
"Go beat them up!" Zhao Wuji pointed at the four people on the Training Field, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.
Luo Chuan hesitated. Damn it, what the hell was Flender going crazy for? They had agreed that the Soul Master subsidy would serve as hush money.
But on second thought, would there be a reward for beating up the second-ranked person on the Heavenly Ranking?
With that thought, Luo Chuan was tempted. There was no point in hiding forever.
Light flickered in Tang San's eyes, and he narrowed them slightly. "An expert!"
"What? Xiao San, what did you say?" Xiao Wu had not heard him clearly, but Tang San said nothing further. Based on his experience from his previous life, merely from the way Luo Chuan had dodged Zhao Wuji's kick, he could tell that Luo Chuan was no ordinary person—unless that dodge had been premeditated.
When Dai Mubai heard that Zhao Wuji actually wanted Luo Chuan to test Tang San and the others, he immediately shook his head. "Teacher Zhao, are you joking? Those people are real monsters. Luo Chuan eats all day and does nothing. He'd be lucky not to get beaten up."
"Eats all day and does nothing?" Zhao Wuji grinned, then waved a large hand. "It's settled. Xiao Chuan, the dean said that if you complete today's task, he'll grant you one condition."
"Can he stop deducting my Soul Master subsidy?"
"No! Pick something else!"
"Forget I said anything." Luo Chuan dusted off his clothes, then gave Tang San and the others a friendly smile. "So, how does this test work?"
Luo Chuan stretched lazily as Zhao Wuji spoke from behind him. "Fight! Beat them all to the ground!"
Upon hearing Zhao Wuji's words, Dai Mubai immediately stopped him. "Teacher Zhao, what kind of joke is this? There are four of them. Other than support abilities, Luo Chuan can't beat any of them.
"They're all geniuses on the Heavenly Ranking. Even the one with the worst talent is more talented than I am." Dai Mubai spoke, and Zhao Wuji immediately grew interested, his eyes lighting up. "Really?"
"Of course! That blue-haired brother is Tang San, second on the Heavenly Ranking! I fought him yesterday, and it ended in a draw.
"The one beside him, Xiao Wu, is tenth on the Heavenly Ranking.
"The one in black, Zhu Zhuqing, is nineteenth.
"And lastly... Ning Rongrong, twenty-third on the Heavenly Ranking!"
"Gulp!" Zhao Wuji stared at the four like a starving wolf, while inwardly shuddering. Is this a blessing or a disaster?
"Teacher Zhao, let me do it instead. I may not be able to beat all of them, but I can still conduct the test.
"Or we could simply let them pass. There's nothing wrong with that! As for Luo Chuan, forget it. He's just a slacker."
Zhao Wuji looked at Dai Mubai, then at Tang San. A grin spread across his face. "The rules cannot be broken!"
Helpless, Luo Chuan could only walk up to Tang San and the other three. He said humbly, "Greetings, everyone. Who wants to go first? Or... shall you all come together?"
Seeing Luo Chuan's humble smile, then hearing those utterly arrogant words, all four were stunned. This guy was completely different on the inside and out!
"I'll go!" Xiao Wu jumped out directly. She was ninth on the Heavenly Ranking, and the Heavenly Dao's reward had been three levels of Soul Power and a Heaven-sent Soul Ring.
Naturally, she had not used the Heaven-sent Soul Ring, but she already possessed her third ring.
"Xiao Wu, a level thirty-two assault-type War Soul Venerable!" Xiao Wu stepped forward. Tang San did not stop her, and everyone consciously retreated several steps to make room.
Dai Mubai shook his head slightly, then put on a disdainful smile and said to Xiao Wu, "Xiao Wu, go easy on him. This one is our dean's disciple. You can't hurt him!"
Luo Chuan frowned slightly upon hearing Dai Mubai's words, then looked at him. "How about a bet?"
Dai Mubai raised a brow. He had long wanted an opportunity to put Luo Chuan down, so he immediately said, "What are we betting on?"
"That I can defeat all four of them."
"Fine. If you win, I'll give you two thousand Gold Soul Coins. If you lose... forget it, losing would be normal. Just pay me five hundred Gold Soul Coins." Dai Mubai spoke generously.
"Oh? That's it? Young Master Dai's purse isn't very full. Looks like you've been having quite a lot of fun lately." Luo Chuan mocked him. Dai Mubai's expression immediately changed. "Five thousand! I'll bet two thousand on you! Bet or shut up!"
"Haha, deal!" Seeing Dai Mubai's fierce yet guilty expression, Luo Chuan laughed. Then he glanced at the Heavenly Ranking and said meaningfully, "Have you ever considered this? The Heavenly Dao can make mistakes too."
Truly rational people would understand that there was never any absolute right or wrong. Different personal positions led to different ways of thinking. How could there be an absolute saint in this world?
Perhaps not stepping on Ma Hongjun was a major flaw, but the protagonist's position was with Flender. As the protagonist's senior brother, and someone who had treated the protagonist well, would any of you really destroy your own family for the sake of righteousness?
It was meant to be a satisfying novel, yet some people act as though they're so morally superior, criticizing everything from the high ground of morality?
Good and evil could reverse depending on one's position. If you want to criticize, at least find a proper reason. Thanks!
I admire those people who read a few chapters and start spouting nonsense, insulting this and that. Idiots! If you want to insult me, at least finish reading first, damn it!
