Rioting Spirit Ascension Platform (Seeking Investment! Seeking Monthly Ticket! Seeking Recommendation Ticket!)
Three days passed in a flash. The members of Zero Class gathered in the classroom, then followed Wu Zhangkong to the Spirit Pagoda.
That day, the East Sea Spirit Transfer Pagoda was unusually bustling. Quite a few Soul Masters had come for the Rioting Spirit Ascension Platform. Nearly every face was filled with all sorts of emotions: tension, anticipation, excitement, and exhilaration.
"Remember this: the Rioting Spirit Ascension Platform is when the largest number of people enter at once. Inside, aside from each other, everyone else is an enemy. You only have one task: survival!" Wu Zhangkong said. "Anyone who fails the final examination will be punished."
"Teacher Wu, what punishment?" Xie Xie raised his hand and asked.
"Your vacation will be canceled," Wu Zhangkong said coldly.
Everyone's expressions immediately turned solemn. That punishment was far too harsh. For the sake of their vacation, they had to stay in the Spirit Ascension Platform for a full hour no matter what!
The teachers and students of Zero Class arrived at the control room specially prepared for them by the East Sea Spirit Transfer Pagoda. All seven cadets entered their Landing Pods.
Their consciousness briefly blurred. When they came to again, they found themselves in a vast, lush forest. The fresh air and emerald vegetation seemed no different from usual, but Jing Shaoyu keenly sensed that the energy in the air contained an extra, inexplicable substance.
"Form up!" Jing Shaoyu called in a low voice.
The Zero Class cadets immediately moved into position. Wang Jinxi of the Assault Type stood at the front. Xie Xie and Zhang Yangzi, the Agility-Attack Types, took up positions on either side of the group. Xu Xiaoyan of the Control Type and Gu Yue of the Ranged Assault Type stood in the middle, with Jing Shaoyu behind the two girls. Tang Wulin, ostensibly a Control Type but actually an Assault Type, guarded the rear, forming a standard diamond formation.
Everyone released their martial souls. A flash of cyan light enveloped them all. This was Gu Yue's control over the Wind Element, which reduced their body weight and thus increased their speed. The effect was limited, but it was better than nothing.
Jing Shaoyu and Zhang Yangzi each summoned their Soul Spirits. Red Jade and Zhang Yangzi's Soul Spirit, Little Black Eagle, were both flying-type Soul Spirits, making them highly suitable for scouting and pathfinding in such dense jungle terrain.
"Everyone, our primary goal is to survive for one hour and complete the final examination. Hunting Spirit Beasts comes second, so let's play it safe. Be careful," Jing Shaoyu said.
"Yes!" the others answered in unison.
Thus, the seven-person team began moving forward. According to feedback from Red Jade and Little Black Eagle, there were no signs of Spirit Beasts behind them or on either side. Ahead, however, they had discovered traces of Spirit Beasts.
A massive, powerfully built ape leaped out. It was a hundred-year Iron Arm Ape.
Naturally, Jing Shaoyu's group of seven showed no mercy toward the first Spirit Beast foolish enough to charge at them. Wang Jinxi was closest to the Iron Arm Ape. With one stride, he rushed before it, then raised his thick Bone Dragon Claw and slammed it toward the ape.
At the same time, Xie Xie sprang forward in a burst. The Light Dragon Dagger in his hand glinted with cold light. In the blink of an eye, he appeared behind the Iron Arm Ape and stabbed toward the back of its head.
The Iron Arm Ape raised its pair of iron arms and collided with Wang Jinxi's Bone Dragon Claw. After a loud crash, its body staggered back several steps. Pain appeared on its ferocious face. As it clashed head-on with Wang Jinxi, the weak spot at the back of its head was fully exposed to Xie Xie. Xie Xie struck true, and the Light Dragon Dagger sank firmly into its skull.
This hundred-year Iron Arm Ape died under Wang Jinxi and Xie Xie's combined assault in less than thirty seconds.
"Good, let's keep moving!" Only after Xie Xie finished absorbing the Iron Arm Ape's Spirit Power and Wang Jinxi finished regulating his breathing did Jing Shaoyu give the order to move out.
After continuing onward, the seven-person team encountered several more Spirit Beasts, all of them hundred-year Spirit Beasts. The strongest had a cultivation of seven hundred years, while the weakest had only one hundred years. Half the time had quickly passed. As long as they held on a little longer, they would meet the requirements for the final examination.
At present, they were all in excellent condition. None of the Spirit Beasts they had encountered had caused them much trouble.
"Someone's coming!" Zhang Yangzi suddenly warned from the tree. "Two boys and two girls. They're heading this way. They all look around twelve or thirteen, so they seem to be senior students from Eastsea Academy."
"Yangzi, how do you know they're students from Eastsea Academy?" Wang Jinxi asked in confusion. "Don't tell me they're all wearing our academy uniforms?"
"They aren't." Zhang Yangzi shook his head. "I just happen to know one of the girls."
As he spoke, Zhang Yangzi suddenly gave Tang Wulin, who was regulating his breathing, a teasing look. Tang Wulin was baffled by the sudden gaze and wore a puzzled expression.
"Yangzi, why are you looking at me?" he asked.
"Oh!" Xie Xie suddenly shouted, a mischievous expression appearing on his face. "Could it be Senior Apprentice Sister Ouyang Zixin?"
At the mention of that name, Tang Wulin's face immediately turned bright red, making Zhang Yangzi and Xie Xie grin happily.
While they were joking around, the four people Zhang Yangzi had spotted also noticed him in the tree. They immediately strode over, and the two groups met.
They truly were students from Eastsea Academy. The two girls were none other than Ouyang Zixin and Mu Xi.
"Shaoyu, Xiao Yan, what a coincidence!" Ouyang Zixin said with a delighted expression, lowering the sword in her hand. It was her martial soul, the Xuan Kong Sword.
"Sister Zixin," Jing Shaoyu answered politely.
"Sister Zixin!" Xu Xiaoyan called sweetly.
"You?!" Tang Wulin was still awkwardly looking at Ouyang Zixin, hesitating over whether to greet her, when a sharp cry suddenly sounded beside him. He turned his head, and surprise immediately appeared on his face.
"Senior Apprentice Sister," he called.
"Mm." Mu Xi was still rather cold toward Tang Wulin. She nodded lightly, then called to Ouyang Zixin, "Zixin, let's go!"
With that, she led the other two companions away briskly in one direction.
Seeing this, Ouyang Zixin could only bid Jing Shaoyu and Xu Xiaoyan farewell. "Xiao Yan, Shaoyu, I'll treat you to a meal during vacation. I'm leaving first!"
She immediately chased after Mu Xi. Before leaving, she did not forget to wave at Tang Wulin as a greeting. Yet that simple gesture made the young boy, whose first feelings of love had just begun to stir, break into a foolish smile.
"Senior Apprentice Sister?" Zhang Yangzi looked curiously at Tang Wulin. "Wulin, was that senior student who was with Senior Apprentice Sister Ouyang Zixin your Senior Apprentice Sister? What's going on?"
Tang Wulin put away his infatuated expression and gave a bitter smile. "She's my teacher's daughter, but she doesn't seem to like me much, so we don't interact often."
"Mm-hmm." Wang Jinxi nodded thoughtfully. "That much was obvious."
"By the way, Class Monitor, Xiao Yan, do you know Senior Apprentice Sister Ouyang Zixin?" Zhang Yangzi turned to Jing Shaoyu and Xu Xiaoyan again, his gossiping heart burning fiercely.
"We're just ordinary friends," Jing Shaoyu said with a smile.
"My family and Sister Zixin's family have been friends for generations, so I've known her since I was very young." Xu Xiaoyan answered thoughtfully. "Oh, right. Sister Zixin has a very good relationship with my brother. Their families are considering arranging an engagement for them."
Tang Wulin looked as though he had been struck by lightning. His previously cheerful expression immediately dimmed, and he stared blankly at Xu Xiaoyan.
"Really?" Zhang Yangzi was quite surprised. Then, like Wang Jinxi and Xie Xie, he cast Tang Wulin a sympathetic look. Poor kid—his first love had not even begun. Was it already going to die before it started? "Wulin, don't overthink it!" Xu Xiaoyan also noticed Tang Wulin's expression and immediately waved at him. "I only heard it from the servants chatting at home. It might not be true. Besides, my brother seems not to like Sister Zixin, so you still have a chance!"
"Oh!" A faint smile finally appeared on Tang Wulin's gloomy face, though only those who had experienced it could understand the bitterness hidden within that smile.
"Alright, stop overthinking it. You're so outstanding—are you really worried you won't find a girlfriend in the future?" Jing Shaoyu patted Tang Wulin on the shoulder, then said to the others, "Let's get ready to move on!"
"Mm! Thank you, Shaoyu." Tang Wulin forced himself to pull himself together.
Thus, they reorganized their formation and continued onward in their intended direction.
