Background

Pu An Yu is the granddaughter of an elderly pharmacist known as Old Pu, who supplies her with information while refusing to solve every danger she creates herself. Her familiarity with Gu Kaizhi’s circle also allows her to recognize Ji Province officials such as Wang Defeng. 231 235

She claims to have two masters—one who teaches skills and one who imparts the Dao—both of whom have surpassed the Five Great Heavenly Gates. Later, she identifies herself as a practitioner of Divine Calculation from the Divination Palace, a branch of the Mystic Sect. 238 354
