Background / History
Extraterrestrial Demons are destructive beings that appear across worlds. They are associated with irrational violence, slaughter, and the spread of fear; some are also capable of planning indirect schemes intended to erode a civilization from within rather than destroy it immediately 90 104.
In the Nine Provinces, their appearance was historically linked to the disappearance of the Immortal Ascension Ladder. One account held that they severed contact between the Immortal Realm and lower worlds in order to isolate and gradually destroy those worlds, though the reliability of several early accounts was later undermined when Changcun Immortal Elder admitted to fabricating parts of his explanation 90 411.
Their influence is not limited to direct attacks. They have infected demonic beasts, leaving them mindless and driven solely by instinct; established deceptive sects; spread flawed cultivation manuals; altered historical narratives; and sought to distort cultivators' values and aesthetic preferences 62 104.
A separate long-term scheme granted Abilities to humans in another world. Jiang Li deduced that the resulting divide between Ability Users and ordinary people was intended to produce escalating social conflict and eventual mutual destruction; the plan was disrupted when Ability Users voluntarily withdrew from political rule 387.
Appearance
Extraterrestrial Demons have no consistent anatomy. Their bodies are described as chaotic amalgamations of multiple creatures, often grotesque and biologically incoherent 231 232 346.
- An Earthly Immortal Grade specimen summoned to the Ming Zhong World resembled a giant, hairless humanoid with four arms, a twisted face, and constantly shifting expressions 231.
- Its arms contained eyeballs rather than bones or flesh, while its heart and Spirit Platform had grown together 232.
- Another specimen possessed a human body, snake scales, pig hooves, and bat wings 402.
- Some demons have reportedly had skin sewn with inward-facing human and animal faces, or bodies composed of tiny hands 232.
- Their blood and internal structures differ between individuals and do not match known races 344 346.
Abilities & Traits
Negative-Emotion Cultivation
Extraterrestrial Demons are said to use rage, fear, grief, anxiety, and other negative emotions rather than spiritual qi or Immortal Power. Death is considered their greatest source of such emotions, explaining their tendency toward indiscriminate killing 91.
- Their origins may be connected to the accumulated negative emotions of many living beings and races 346.
- This proposed origin may account for their unstable forms and radically different internal structures 346.
- The claim remains a theory rather than a verified fact 91 346.
Immortal-Grade Physical Strength
Even irrational Earthly Immortal Grade demons possess overwhelming bodies and auras, capable of threatening entire worlds upon descent 231.
- Their mere presence can induce terror in living beings across a world 231.
- Conventional military weapons—including Light Blades, Imitation Sun Bombs, and Annihilation Cannons—failed to damage one Earthly Immortal Grade specimen 231.
- Their roars can generate continent-level shockwaves if not neutralized 232.
- They can withstand attacks from Integration Stage combatants that would otherwise devastate multiple planets 604.
- Their instinctive combat patterns are disorganized and difficult for conventional cultivators to predict 402.
Infection and Mental Degradation
Some Extraterrestrial Demons can contaminate living beings and strip them of reason 62.
- A past outbreak turned an entire city into mad, howling infectees; bites spread the contamination further 62.
- Infected demonic beasts lose rational thought and act entirely on instinct 62.
- Such beasts may become extremely powerful through bloodline or mutation, but their lack of understanding prevents them from reaching the Tribulation Stage 62.
Long-Term Manipulation
Not all Extraterrestrial Demon activity is openly destructive. Some schemes weaken worlds over generations by damaging their social, cultural, or cultivation foundations 104 387.
- They indirectly established the Divine Treasure Sect while concealing their involvement 104.
- They distributed misleading cultivation manuals whose errors would gradually damage users' foundations 104.
- Honghu Envoy from Above taught the former Demon King of Ella World a life-force-absorbing formation, while secretly diverting most of its gains elsewhere 466.
- A summoning formation hidden in Fanting World's planetary core could alert its creator when damaged 503.
Summoning and Dissipation
Extraterrestrial Demons can be called through obscure language and formations, though the exact mechanism is not fully understood 233 503.
- Xiang Gu summoned an Earthly Immortal Grade demon by transmitting a message that the GouLe Civilization had vanished and requesting an Envoy from Above to descend 233.
- Their language is believed to contain unusual power and is not widely recorded or transmitted 233.
- When ordered to commit suicide by Karma Tribulation Envoy from Above, a captured demon dissipated completely rather than leaving a corpse 233.
- Demons defeated in the Nine Provinces likewise turned to dust and vanished 402.
Known Classifications
| Classification | Description | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Earthly Immortal Grade | Commonly documented destructive manifestations; often irrational, physically overwhelming, and difficult for Tribulation Stage cultivators to defeat without cooperation. | 231 402 406 |
| Heavenly Immortal Grade | Clear-headed demons capable of planning, infiltration, and deliberate schemes; Honghu Envoy from Above is identified at this level. | 400 501 |
| Extraterrestrial Great Demon | Observer World's term for demons that appear every four to five hundred years and attack planets across its universe. | 593 |
Relationships
- Jiang Li — Primary adversary; he has repeatedly identified, captured, dissected, and killed Extraterrestrial Demons, showing no restraint against them 62 232 233.
- Bai Hongtu — Jiang Li's ally in investigating demonic-beast contamination and inter-world schemes; he explains that demons' absorption of negative emotions contributes to their distorted forms and irrationality 62 231.
- Changcun Immortal Elder — Source of much early information about the demons, though he later admitted that several details he gave—including their cultivation system and hierarchy—were fabricated to preserve hope in the Nine Provinces 411.
- Karma Tribulation Envoy from Above — Exercises authority over at least one Extraterrestrial Demon, ordering it to commit suicide 233.
- Honghu Envoy from Above — A Heavenly Immortal Grade Extraterrestrial Demon who manipulated the former Demon King of Ella World and maintained a summoning formation in Fanting World 466 503.
- Dao Ancestor — Fought and crushed numerous clear-headed Extraterrestrial Demons while travelling through the Void 400.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Demonic Beast Contamination
Jiang Li discovers that the Ferocious Beasts of the Ming Zhong World have been tampered with by Extraterrestrial Demons. The beasts are irrational and bear traces of infection, though they do not all spread contamination in the same manner 62.
Nine Provinces' Hidden Threat
Jiang Li uncovers indirect attempts to weaken the Nine Provinces through sects, cultivation misinformation, altered history, and cultural manipulation. He convenes the Nine Provinces Council Meeting to coordinate a response 103 104.
Ming Zhong World Descent
Xiang Gu summons an Earthly Immortal Grade Extraterrestrial Demon, which instantly kills him and survives Ming Zhong's most destructive weapons without injury. Jiang Li subdues it effortlessly, after which cultivators examine its anomalous anatomy 231 232.
Later Nine Provinces Attacks
Multiple Earthly Immortal Grade demons attack the Nine Provinces after the Immortal Ascension Ladder's destruction. The lack of cooperation among Tribulation Stage cultivators causes severe losses and exposes the scale of the threat 402 406 407.
Inter-World Schemes
Investigations in other worlds reveal more sophisticated operations: the creation of Abilities to fuel social conflict, manipulation of Ella World's Demon King through life-force formations, and hidden summoning formations embedded in planetary cores 387 466 503.
Observer World's Great Demons
In the Observer World, Extraterrestrial Great Demons are treated as recurring interstellar catastrophes. The Three Sovereigns and their civilization repeatedly repel rather than kill them, using Integration Stage combatants, fleets, and weaponized planets 593 604.
Trivia
- The Nine Provinces' historical records generally describe Extraterrestrial Demons as only roaring or making simple sounds; Xiang Gu's summoning incantation was an unusual exception 233.
- A demon's appearance is so variable that Jiang Li considered the Earthly Immortal Grade specimen in Ming Zhong World a form he had never previously seen 232.
- In the Observer World, the official explanation claims Extraterrestrial Great Demons are weapons sent by another world to invade 593.
- Some apparent “Extraterrestrial Demon” incidents were staged by Jiang Li and Bai Hongtu as a realistic battle exercise rather than an actual invasion 478.
