Background

Qian Daoliu is Qian Renxue's grandfather and the father of Qian Xunji, Spirit Hall's former Pope. Following Qian Xunji's death at Bibi Dong's hands, Qian Daoliu nevertheless helped Bibi Dong become Pope and removed obstacles to her authority; he later regarded this as compensation for what had happened. He remained detached from Spirit Hall's daily affairs but claims to have kept its actions under observation. 171

Break with Bibi Dong

After Qin Shiyuan defeats Bibi Dong, Qian Daoliu arrives seemingly prepared to protect Spirit Hall. Qian Renxue intervenes for Qin Shiyuan, and Qian Daoliu decides to support her choice instead. He then attacks the injured Bibi Dong, decisively changing the conflict's balance. 167

Qian Daoliu explains that he spared Bibi Dong from immediate consequences after Qian Xunji's death and aided her rise to Pope, but no longer considers himself indebted to her. 171

Fall of Spirit Hall
