After the Sorting Ceremony, Headmaster Dippet did not deliver any long-winded speech.
Instead, he stood up directly and announced loudly, "Welcome! Let the feast begin!"
Such a crisp and efficient speech drew thunderous applause from everyone.

Li Weide and the dazed-looking Tom followed the group of Slytherin students onward.
They soon realized that they were heading underground beneath the castle.
A few minutes later, the first-years followed the prefects to a stone wall carved with snake statues.
"Pure-blood!" the male prefect said as he approached the stone wall.
The two snake statues on the wall immediately came to life.
As the snake statues slithered aside, the stone wall suddenly split open down the middle, revealing a doorway...
"Remember, this week's password is 'Pure-blood.' Don't forget it, or you won't be able to get in."
Pure-blood? Hearing that password, Li Weide could only think that it was so very Slytherin.
The people of Slytherin had always possessed a particular obsession with power.
So, after entering the Common Room, that haughty-looking male prefect gave the first-years a speech that lasted a full half hour...
It was not until many of the first-years were so exhausted that they were nearly falling asleep standing up that he finally waved them off in satisfaction and told them to find their rooms and rest.
