Background / History

Fall of Qingwu

Duke Dingguo rebelled against the Qingwu Kingdom, killing Luoshuang's father and the Crown Prince. Luoshuang escaped as the surviving Fourth Princess, but the pursuers and assassins wiped out her guards, leaving her injured and isolated in the Mist Forest 300 301.

She encountered Leng Shi, who claimed to be He Xu, General Sichen's undercover agent within Dragon Tooth. Though deeply suspicious after her recent betrayals, Luoshuang chose not to abandon the apparently wounded assassin. He later admitted that his injuries had been staged to test whether she was worthy of serving; despite her anger at his methods, she accepted his loyalty and placed her restoration effort in his hands 301.

Training under the Imperial Tutor

Initially uncertain that a woman could restore a kingdom, Luoshuang was taught that rulership was not limited by gender. Dug pressed her to conceal her emotions, remain suspicious of others, and develop the resolve expected of a ruler 302.

During their days in the forest, she trained in survival, martial arts, and endurance. The experience transformed her from a sheltered princess into a more determined claimant to the throne, while her trust in Dug became increasingly dependent and personal 303.

Dug later instructed her in recruitment, political manipulation, and the “Art of Thick Skin and Dark Heart.” Luoshuang initially objected to coercing Steward Lu into service, but gradually understood the practical demands of building a power base in hostile territory 305 306.

Building a Power Base

After emerging from the forest, Luoshuang resolved to reclaim her kingdom, defeat Duke Dingguo, and become the first empress in history 304.

With Dug's support, she was installed as Dragon Tooth's new Chief. Her identity as the Fourth Princess was revealed to the assassins, who were told that Dragon Tooth had originally been planted by the Qingwu Kingdom within Chongming 320.

She began learning to manage personnel, official affairs, and military planning. Dug assigned her responsibility for controlling Dragon Tooth, identifying useful talents, and preparing an uprising rather than allowing her to remain a symbolic leader 315.

War and Ascension

Luoshuang's movement gained soldiers, generals, cities, and public support. She worked with Dug to rally Dragon Tooth, accept Huangfu Xing and Huangfu Yue into her camp, and establish Linyang City as a base 320 326 330.

Following Dug's victory over Cao Lin, Luoshuang received the support of Linyang's wealthy families and formally appointed the surrendered Chen Su as National Preceptor of Qingwu 344 346.

She ascended the throne in Yuyang City as Chongming Kingdom's new emperor. During the ceremony, she publicly credited Dug for protecting, training, and empowering her, then named him the King of Loyalty and Righteousness and granted him exceptional political authority 368 369.

Her reign adopted policies including gender equality, universal education, and the promotion of constellation culture 370.

Unification

Dug's campaigns rapidly assimilated or defeated the remaining kingdoms and their forces. In just over four months, Luoshuang became the ruler of all unified kingdoms and was regarded as the most powerful empress in history 375.

Personality

Luoshuang's flight from Qingwu made her wary, observant, and slow to trust. Even when Leng Shi's account appeared convincing, she recognized that his claims could not be verified and considered the possibility that he intended to exploit her identity 301.

She began as a compassionate but inexperienced princess. She objected to Dug's intimidation of Steward Lu and feared that ruthless recruitment would damage her reputation, but she steadily accepted that a ruler needed patience, leverage, and the ability to make difficult choices 305 306.

Luoshuang is strongly attached to Dug as both mentor and protector. His repeated efforts to keep her away from danger make her aware of his concern, while her admiration for his ability develops into personal affection 303 332 353.
