A Dragon's Roar shook the vault of heaven. The roar seemed to contain a unique power, causing the Dragon Qi throughout Zhang Chen's body to circulate faster, then shield his entire body. Though the Dragon Might from the distant sky spread outward, it did not affect Zhang Chen in the slightest.
Zhang Chen stared at the colossal thing in the distant sky, utterly dumbfounded. "A dragon? There are actually real dragons in this world!"
Even across an unknown distance, the dragon still appeared a thousand meters long in Zhang Chen's eyes. Its horns resembled a deer's, its head a camel's, its eyes a rabbit's, its neck a snake's, its belly a mirage clam's, its scales a fish's, its claws an eagle's, its paws a tiger's, and its ears an ox's. It twisted and coiled through the sky, while an indescribable sacred majesty permeated heaven and earth.
But in the next moment, golden light flickered in Zhang Chen's eye sockets as his Dharma Eye opened on its own. Then Zhang Chen froze. The divine dragon that had been roaming between heaven and earth transformed, beneath his Dharma Eye, into an illusory stream of Water Vapor—or perhaps Dragon Qi—moving through heaven and earth like a living creature.
"That isn't a dragon. That's Dragon Qi!" As someone who possessed Dragon Qi himself, Zhang Chen recognized the divine dragon's true form at a glance.
"But why does this Dragon Qi look somewhat impure? It seems two grades worse than the Dragon Qi inside my body?" Zhang Chen looked at the strand of Dragon Qi on the horizon, then at the Dragon Qi within himself, and an inexplicable thought suddenly surfaced in his heart.
At that moment, the strand of True Dragon Qi within his body circulated, and emotions of "hunger" and "want to eat" flooded Zhang Chen's mind. His expression turned strange. "The Dragon Qi in my body seems to have ideas about that Dragon Qi in the sky. You're such a tiny little thing—if you're an ant, then that thing is an elephant. Aren't you afraid of bursting yourself to death? Besides, that Dragon Qi is floating in the sky. I don't have the ability to fly through the heavens or burrow through the earth. Even if we want to devour it, we can't reach it."
That Dragon Qi hovered high in the sky, and even if Zhang Chen climbed to the Mountain Top, he would not be able to reach it.
Feeling the yearning of the Dragon Qi around his body, Zhang Chen could not help narrowing his eyes. "This thing would be a great tonic for me. If I could obtain it and devour it..."
The golden light in Zhang Chen's eyes faded, and he squinted. "With this Dragon Qi emerging, who knows how much commotion it will cause. Great Drought, rebellion, Dragon Qi appearing—could a Chaotic World truly be coming?"
But Zhang Chen quickly remembered that the materials for making gunpowder were still drying outside the karst cave. They were all powdered substances, and with winds of Force Five or Six rising now, they could not withstand being blown about. And if rain turned them into a muddy mess, they would likely become unusable.
He turned around, hurriedly pushed the supplies into the courtyard, then took off running toward the mountains.
Fortunately, ever since Zhang Chen had gained the ability of Bloodsucking, his stamina had become exceptionally good. He ran all the way to the karst cave and, before the fierce wind and Torrential Rain arrived, gathered every item away. He then put the falcon into its cage and shut it inside the karst cave. Only then did he realize that after all that rushing about, he was drenched in sweat.
His body felt sticky and uncomfortable, so Zhang Chen went to the stream and jumped straight into it to wash away his sweat. As he watched the True Dragon on the horizon and felt the restlessness and greed of the Dragon Qi in his body, thoughts whirled through his mind. Then he suddenly saw the colossal dragon open its mouth. All the Water Vapor from every direction of heaven and earth surged toward it like ten thousand rivers returning to the sea, swallowed by the divine dragon.
But what truly horrified Zhang Chen was the stream beneath his feet. As he soaked in its waters, he saw the stream turn into Water Vapor at a speed visible to the naked eye, surging mightily toward the dragon's mouth.
At the same time, the riverbed beneath his feet became like a desert. As the divine dragon opened its mouth, the entire river sank into the underground river and was then devoured by the dragon.
"This... this... this..."
In just ten breaths, the entire river vanished into thin air before Zhang Chen's eyes. He alone sat in the riverbed, watching the fish struggle in the mud, a look of helpless bewilderment in his eyes.
"Dragon Sucking Water! This is Dragon Sucking Water!" Zhang Chen watched the fish thrashing nonstop in the riverbed. Even the riverbed itself was drying up at a visible speed, all its moisture forcibly sucked away.
"How could this happen?" Disbelief filled Zhang Chen's eyes. "Could the river water disappearing before, and the drought across these mountains and rivers, all have been caused by that Dragon Qi?"
Zhang Chen soothed the True Dragon Qi inside his body, and it settled down once more. Then he looked toward the sky. As the Dragon Qi quieted, the divine dragon phenomenon between heaven and earth vanished as well. Where was there any dragon on the horizon? There was only a vast bank of clouds.
"Eh?" Zhang Chen looked at the cloud bank, stunned. He had clearly seen a divine dragon just now, so how had it turned back into clouds?
Zhang Chen hurriedly opened his Dharma Eye, only to see the clouds turn once more into a dragon-shaped current of energy, roaming between heaven and earth and greedily swallowing Water Vapor from all directions.
"I understand now!"
Zhang Chen closed his Dharma Eye. As the Dragon Qi inside his body circulated, that cloud bank between heaven and earth transformed back into a divine dragon.
By now, Zhang Chen understood. To ordinary mortal eyes, it was merely a somewhat larger mass of black clouds. When he looked using Dragon Qi, he saw a divine dragon. Yet when he opened his Dharma Eye, what he saw was a strand of Dragon Qi.
"This Dragon Qi is rather interesting." Zhang Chen muttered to himself.
"But this Dragon Qi is swallowing all the Water Vapor between heaven and earth. I'm afraid there will be serious trouble!" Zhang Chen looked at the riverbed, now completely dry from losing its moisture, his expression grave. "I only hope the groundwater won't be affected. Otherwise, the people of this land will be left to die of thirst."
Zhang Chen stood up and patted the mud from his body, a stern look in his eyes. "Preparations must be made early!"
Yet the Dragon Qi drawing away the water was a natural disaster. Who could possibly stop it?
If that Dragon Qi truly sucked every last bit of Water Vapor from this region, then the people would likely be forced to leave their homes and wander elsewhere.
"I still need to excavate the Ancient Tomb. I don't want to leave in a hurry—I need to find a water source as soon as possible." Zhang Chen muttered to himself. With matters weighing on his mind, he returned all the way to the karst cave and began preparing explosives.
If the world truly fell into chaos in the future, how could he possibly do without explosives?
"My Dragon Qi seems interested in that Dragon Qi between heaven and earth. Why is that? Could True Dragon Qi evolve?" Zhang Chen secretly pondered and speculated.
Unable to finish his bath, Zhang Chen Headed Towards the foot of the mountain. He needed to return home and deal with that batch of supplies.
As he walked through the forest, the Dragon Qi drew away the Water Vapor between heaven and earth, pulling it all into the air. Instead, the air grew a little more humid, and the grass and trees gained a touch of dewy vitality.
