Background / History
Zhang Chen initially lived as a hunter in a poor household, gathering honey, hunting, and supporting his stepmother Zhang Shi and younger siblings. He began excavating an Ancient Tomb beneath a karst cave, seeing it as both a source of income and an opportunity to gain skills and power. 42 43
His excavation led him into conflict with a Fox Spirit and exposed him to the world of Great Tombs, ancient divine beings, Mystic Items, and bloodline powers. By investigating the Dragon Burial Ground, he learned of the Dragon Ying, the Emperor’s Daughter Qing, and the immense fortune concealed within the tomb complex. 12
After gaining Soul-Hooking Chains, Zhang Chen began exploring spiritual and soul-based realms. The ability let his soul enter a silent, mist-covered world resembling the Netherworld, establishing the foundation for his later Soul Hooking Plunder techniques. 76
He entered the Spiritual World and became entangled with the Great Freedom Heavenly Demon, the Emperor’s Daughter, and the ruins of Buzhou Mountain. At Buzhou Mountain, he cultivated the Hercules Moving Mountain Method, freed the Heavenly Demon from suppression, and began collecting the thirty-three portions of Divine Might through the Buzhou Seal. 334 335 527
Zhang Chen later developed the Blood Dao, the Five Elements Authority, Ice Hell, and a range of Spiritual World-based abilities. He repeatedly entered increasingly dangerous Heavens, investigating the Corpse Ancestor’s Tomb, seeking Divine Might, and pursuing ancient treasures such as the Six Paths of Reincarnation. 595 726 741
Seeking a refuge from the Dharma Ending Age, he destroyed and refined the Eighteenth Heaven into Chaos, then used the Heaven Reaching Jianmu, Xirang, Pan Peach Tree, and Time Acceleration to create a minor world. After integrating the Six Paths of Reincarnation, this world evolved into a Middle Chiliocosm under his control. 970 972 990
During the Dharma Ending Age, Zhang Chen consolidated his power in the Northern Lands. He used a Feng Shui Array and his Great Tomb as shelter for supernatural forces, manipulated the balance among humans, demons, and noble factions, and supported Wang Ye’s campaigns against the Great Victory Royal Family. 1026 1031 1055
Following the resurgence of Spiritual Energy, Zhang Chen’s original consciousness returned after his original body died in prison. He chose to remain inconspicuous while rebuilding influence through disciples such as Wang Biao and quietly controlling supernatural threats. 1063 1065 1096

Zhang Chen’s body has undergone repeated transformations through cultivation, gradually eliminating congenital human flaws and moving toward a divine-demon physique. His later physical development is described as perfect and flawless, with immense strength capable of moving mountains. 131 900

Personality
Zhang Chen is intensely pragmatic and opportunistic. He treats Great Tombs, ancient corpses, Mystic Items, and even dangerous calamities as possible sources of Experience Points or new skills. His willingness to devour valuables—including the Heaven Reaching Jianmu when trapped—shows how far he will go to escape danger and advance. 347 730
He is cautious when an opponent’s strength is unknown, often preferring preparation, formations, stealth, or indirect manipulation over a direct confrontation. However, once he believes he has control of a situation, he becomes notably confident and provocative. 187 370 801
Zhang Chen can be ruthless toward enemies and bystanders when he views it as strategically necessary, including allowing the destruction of hostile nobles and using wider conflicts to weaken rivals. 779 1012 He is not wholly indifferent to ordinary people, however: he sends Jinling City’s inhabitants into reincarnation while preserving their memories and avoids allowing the Demon Clan to devastate the capital for his personal revenge. 1001 1021
Despite his self-interest, he consistently provides for his family, protects his followers when useful, and acts as a teacher to Wang Biao and Wang Ye. 547 1031 1065
