Severing Karmic Ties

Upon hearing Jiang Nan's words, Zhang Chen felt utterly speechless, as though he had suffered a devastating blow. How unlikeable did I have to be for her to say something like that?

Jiang Nan looked at Zhang Chen, her words growing colder and colder. She believed that Zhang Chen had secretly slipped into her room because he wanted to continue pestering her. To completely sever the karmic ties between them, she could only say the cruelest things possible.

She had already tried to persuade him nicely twice before, but it seemed he had still not taken it to heart. That was why he had continued to cling to a sliver of hope and pester her.

"Am I really that detestable?" Zhang Chen asked.

"Far more detestable than you imagine! I wish you would vanish from before my eyes forever and never appear before me again. Seeing you ruins my mood for the entire day; if I do not see you, I feel cheerful all day long. You are like a fly, and not just any fly—a fly covered in filth!" Jiang Nan said.

Zhang Chen's face turned ashen. Even with his ability to Enlighten the Mind and See the Nature, he could not endure such humiliation.

"You need not say any more. I understand what you mean. I came today to sever our karmic ties completely. I will leave this token with you. From this moment on, the karma between us will be wiped clean with a single stroke." After speaking, Zhang Chen placed the token representing entry into the inner courtyard on the table, then slowly rose to his feet. "From this day onward, the karma between us is completely settled. May we never meet again, even at the Yellow Springs!"
