Catching the Murderer Doesn't Require Deduction at All (Mutton Bone Soup for Lunch, Meow!)
In the forest late at night, everything was deathly silent.
After the bustle of the day, the forest seemed especially eerie at night. But to Fang Zheng, this was clearly nothing.
"Honestly, what's the point of this?"
Fang Zheng walked through the forest with her hands behind her head, bored out of her mind as she looked at Heine a short distance ahead.
"You're still not giving up on that secret art? Seriously, why not just join our Thousand Tree Clan?"
"I still have to give it a try. Magi are stubborn people."
"Then why did you drag me along?"
Fang Zheng was genuinely puzzled. After the old man's corpse had been discovered that morning, Heine had come to find her and Senka. Fang Zheng had initially thought he had finally come around, but instead, Heine had asked the two of them to look after his younger sister, Rosalind.
That was one thing. The little girl was well-behaved and sensible enough, and she could happily watch Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf all day. What Fang Zheng had not expected was that, by evening, Heine had come looking for her again and invited her to join him in tracking down the inheritance and the murderer.
Fang Zheng could not quite make sense of it, but whether she understood or not, she followed him anyway.
"But you came too, didn't you?"
"I did, but I just want to end this farce sooner. Waver seems to be planning to play master detective, but I'm not interested in that. I have no interest in deduction either. The simplest and most direct way to catch a murderer is to catch it at the crime scene..."
As she spoke, Fang Zheng clenched her little fist and gave it a wave.
