Gray agreed readily, but she regretted it not long afterward. Before her, Red Ponytail merely smiled as she raised her left hand and made a sweeping motion through the air over Lord El-Melloi II's back as he lay on the bed. A beam of light appeared in the next instant and scanned across his back. Then, the burns there began healing at a visible speed, completely restored in less than a minute.

"All done."

Fang Zheng put away her Personal Terminal and snapped her fingers.

"I've healed his physical injuries. As for the internal shock, he'll have to recover from that himself. It won't be easy for him to wake up, either. It'll probably take at least one night."

"That's unbelievable."

Ryougi Shiki and the others did not react much to the sight, but Olga Marie's eyes widened.

"Such serious injuries, healed so quickly... What did you use? Could it have been some kind of Druidic elixir?"

"Hehe, don't joke around."

Fang Zheng displayed the Personal Terminal in her hand again and gave it a shake before Olga Marie.

"This isn't magecraft. It's the power of science."

"Science?"

Olga Marie frowned at that, while Fang Zheng shrugged.

"That's right, the power of science. History moves forward, and so does the world. Even if the mysteries of the past have faded, that doesn't mean we've truly lost our drive to explore the unknown. That's why I say magecraft has fallen behind. Stagnation never ends well. It's just that most Magi can't see that."

In Fang Zheng's view, the Magi's very act of concealing mystery was an expression of ignorance and stubbornness. They insisted science and mystery were incompatible, and that once science uncovered a mystery's secrets, the mystery would lose its power. That was the ultimate manifestation of illiteracy and superstition.
