Delivered to Your Doorstep (After Waking from a Nap, I Always Wonder Whether I Actually Slept)
For Professor Armitage, that night's experience changed his life forever.
What Fang Zheng did not know was that the unlucky fellow Francis had told him about—the one bitten to death by a dog—was actually the tall, goat-faced, deeply bizarre man Fang Zheng and Professor Armitage had encountered in the library on the day of the university anniversary celebration.
At the time, the man had wanted to borrow the Necronomicon kept at Miskatonic University, apparently in an attempt to fill in some missing part. His behavior had caught Professor Armitage's attention, though back then, Armitage had merely regarded him as an ordinary human. He had originally intended to tell the man that while he could not take the book away, he could copy the sections he needed.

Afterward, Professor Armitage wrote to every other university that possessed a copy of the Necronomicon, warning them to be wary of a young man named Wilbur Whateley attempting to borrow it. This caused the man to hit walls everywhere, unable to obtain the information he sought.
But what unsettled Professor Armitage was that he had not been human at all! He had been some terrifying creature beyond anything Armitage could have imagined!
In that instant, what had once been only vague unease transformed into stark terror. He had seen the utterly inhuman tissues and structures beneath that man's body with his own eyes. He had watched him melt, and heard the nightjars crying as if in delighted celebration.
This brought Professor Armitage back to the superstitions and old legends that had circulated throughout the ancient lands of Dunwich. Those rumors, passed from mouth to mouth
