This world differed somewhat from the one Fang Zheng knew. The development of civilization and technology across its various regions seemed remarkably balanced.

That was right. Based on historical development, Europe and North America should have been the leaders following the Industrial Revolution and into the electrical revolution. Yet in this world, it seemed as though Asia, North America, Europe, and other regions had each produced their own Einstein, Tesla, or Newton, creating the illusion that every faction in a Civilization game had advanced to the same technological age.

China and Japan had reached similar levels of development as well. Fang Zheng had even spotted a China Airlines passenger plane at Tokyo Airport—well, it had that big, crude Soviet-style design paired with an utterly tacky paint job. Nothing could have made its identity more obvious.

He really wondered whether this world would eventually head in the direction of Command & Conquer or Red Alert.

With Little Angel's alterations to the records, Fang Zheng successfully arrived at the University of Tokyo's medical school as a doctor of psychology. He would be working here from now on. As for Miskatonic University... well, all that could be said was that a sudden fire had reduced its treasured collection to ashes. What a tragedy.

But what did that have to do with Fang Zheng?

Tokyo did not feel particularly different from anywhere else to Fang Zheng. Its newspapers were the same as those elsewhere, devoting only a small portion of their pages to political, economic, and military issues. Everything else was used for Ghost Stories, urban legends, and explorations and introductions to mysterious villages.
