Jada stared at Airi, her expression suddenly as grave as if the world were ending.
Controlling familiars.
For a Vampire, that was unimaginable.
Put simply, the Vampires of this world were much like trainers in the Pokémon world. When they fought, they would call out, "Come out, Pikachu!" then release Pikachu from a Master Ball, followed by, "Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on the target, dealing XXX damage."
That was basically the process.
But what Airi had done was equivalent to keeping Pikachu inside the Master Ball and casting Thunderbolt herself—those were completely different concepts!
The True Ancestors were still Vampires. No matter how powerful they were, they had limits. They could keep stronger familiars, but that was all. The stronger the familiar, the more violent its temperament. Of course, the True Ancestors were regarded as the strongest Vampires precisely because they could control those powerful yet violent familiars.
But that was all!
Even the finest rider merely knew how to handle a horse, perhaps with a few secret tricks. They could never chop off the horse's four legs, attach them to themselves, and start running.
Not only would the rider be unwilling—the horse would be unwilling too!
Yet what she had just seen forced Jada to entertain an absurd thought. Come to think of it, Airi had never summoned a single familiar so far. Though she had used the power of familiars, that was all. Furthermore, her methods of using that power were unfamiliar and highly unusual, so Jada had been unable to determine anything for the moment.
But when Airi had torn through space to block her attack just now, Jada became certain that she had used a familiar's power to accomplish it.
However... that was what made it terrifying.
"Is there a problem?"
Seeing Jada's solemn expression, Airi raised
