Out of curiosity, Fang Zheng accepted Silvia's invitation and decided to see what exactly was behind the "haunting" here.
Naturally, he also asked Silvia about the old school building.
According to Silvia, this place had originally been a long-established girls' school, supposedly built during the Taisho era. It had later closed after the Starfall disaster. When W&W wanted to build Queenville Academy here, they bought the property. As for the old school building, it seemed there had once been plans to demolish it, but it was later simply left unattended.
If anything had happened here, it was apparently a mass student suicide.
"Suicide?"
Fang Zheng raised a brow at that, while Katou Kirin and Julie gave almost imperceptible shudders.
"Yes."
Silvia nodded and opened a window.
"This is the information W&W uncovered. There was apparently a mass student suicide here during the Showa era..."
"Oh..."
Fang Zheng stared at the newspaper photo displayed in the window. It indeed reported an accidental death incident at a private girls' academy. The police had concluded that the girls had died of carbon monoxide poisoning after burning charcoal for warmth during winter without proper ventilation... at least, that was what it said.
"The incident was covered up?"
"Probably."
Silvia sighed softly.
"According to W&W's investigation, ever since this school was founded, only the daughters of nobles and influential families had been allowed to enroll. If that many people really died, they would have covered it up no matter what."
"If there really are ghosts, then it definitely wasn't as simple as carbon monoxide poisoning."
"You mean murder?"
"Carbon monoxide poisoning can be murder too. All they had to do was knock the girls unconscious beforehand, then burn charcoal in their rooms. There were no surveillance cameras in that era, and investigative methods were primitive.
