Abandoned city.
To the residents of this world, abandoned stations were the most terrifying places. They meant thousands upon thousands of Mad Corpses inside. In fact, nearly every abandoned station was a massive Mad Corpse nest. Even passing by one in an Armored Carriage was enough to send chills down one's spine, and now... the Armored Carriage before them blew its horn and charged straight into the dark Mad Corpse nest ahead.
"Wooooo—!!!"
The piercing horn woke the Mad Corpses slumbering in the darkness. Pairs of scarlet eyes lit up, and then they turned toward the steel war machine stopped at the station, roaring as they pounced.
"Roar—!!"
Like wild beasts, countless Mad Corpses rushed in from every direction. They threw themselves at the steel war machine, trying to tear it apart completely. Yet the instant their hands touched its outer shell, a bright current flashed. The Mad Corpses collapsed to the ground, never making another sound.
After an unknown amount of time, silence returned once more. Only then did the armored train's barrier slowly open. When the lights illuminated the area again, all that could be seen around them were densely packed, countless Mad Corpse bodies.
"See? It works on the same principle as a mosquito zapper."
Fang Zheng stepped out of the carriage as he spoke to Ikaruga Sayu.
"As long as you hook up the current like this, those idiot mosquitoes will come running over to die on their own... Seems pretty effective, right?"
"I understand the logic, but it still sounds wrong no matter how I hear it..."
Ikaruga Sayu broke out in a cold sweat as she looked at the mountain-like piles of corpses before her, not even knowing what to say. Sure, mosquito zappers also ended up with heaps of dead mosquitoes beneath them...
