Many novels depicted zombie crises or the aftermath of nuclear explosions and radiation, where the wealthy were overthrown by their own subordinates. The once-lofty young lady became prey for her underlings to toy with, while the mob boss who had once ruled with absolute authority became a lowly dog his lackeys could beat to their hearts' content.

There was only one reason for all of this: the wealth they possessed had no value in a post-apocalyptic society and brought no benefits whatsoever.

For example, why would bodyguards put up with an aristocratic young lady's endless nagging and willfulness and serve her?

There was naturally no such thing as faith, conviction, or loyalty involved. The only reason was that being her bodyguard paid well. With that money, they could buy the houses and cars they wanted, get married, raise children, or prepare for retirement. Put plainly, both sides formed a community of interests. They endured the aristocratic young lady's tantrums and received money to satisfy their own needs.

However, once that supply chain of needs collapsed
