Background / History

Before the game’s current timeline, Chao Bafang was already a renowned super first-rate Player. Yang Shan had faced him repeatedly in tournaments and was usually overwhelmed; Chao’s reputation as the “Overlord Spear” was established long before the new launch version. 5 66

Outside the game, Chao Bafang came from an ordinary background. An unscrupulous guild once trapped him in a contract dispute, forcing his parents to use their hard-earned savings to cover a 100,000 RMB penalty. 125

At launch, he entered the Magical Beast Mountain Range while pursuing the purple Mercenary Guild quest “White Leaf Return.” He attempted to claim the Green Bamboo Python, but the beast’s dying attack killed him before he could secure the first kill, leaving him bitter over Yang Shan’s resulting Global Announcement. 5 6

Chao later met Yang Shan again on the Man Bull grasslands. Yang Shan helped him obtain Man Bull Root for another purple quest, and Chao immediately pledged to repay the favor. Completing his early purple quests earned him a Purple Word Seal Yellow Rank Mid-Level cultivation method and the Refined Long Halberd, giving him a foundation beyond most early Players. 10 13

Chao Bafang is a six-foot-tall, broad-shouldered, powerfully built man whose physique suits his preferred image of a battlefield general. He is most often depicted carrying an oversized long halberd and later adopts black armor and a mounted-warrior appearance. 5 106 244

He came to Yang Shan’s aid immediately after receiving help with his quest, accepted a debt contract to obtain the Thousand Rock Shattering Palm, and willingly sacrificed himself against the black-clothed assassin to create an opening for Yang Shan. 12 48 59

His confidence does not prevent him from learning. He began as a nervous Newbie awed by Yang Shan’s strength, but steadily absorbed Yang Shan’s combat knowledge, practiced his weapon skills, and corrected weaknesses exposed during the tournament. 10 45 70 330
