Background / History

Tang Hao was originally groomed as Clear Sky Sect's Young Sect Master and learned its complete secret arts ahead of his elder brother, Tang Xiao. His ability to use Ring Detonation required a body reinforced by six Soul Bones of at least ten-thousand-year quality; two of his Soul Bones came from the sect, while he acquired the other four himself 280.

He became involved with Ah Yin, a Hundred Thousand Year Blue Silver Emperor who had taken human form. During their flight from Spirit Hall, he broke through from Rank 89 to Rank 90 after Ah Yin sacrificed herself. With his new hundred-thousand-year ninth ring, Ring Detonation, and the Great Sumeru Hammer, he defeated Qian Xunji, Chrysanthemum Douluo, and Ghost Douluo before escaping 26. Dai Yichen's diary later questioned how Tang Hao's power had grown so rapidly and alleged that he had used Ah Yin's Soul Bone for cultivation; the diary presents this as speculation rather than established proof 26.

Believing himself responsible for his father's death and the Clear Sky Sect's seclusion, Tang Hao withdrew to Holy Soul Village and drank heavily. He secretly watched over Tang San but initially suspected the boy's parentage when Tang San awakened Blue Silver Grass rather than the Clear Sky Hammer. His attitude changed immediately when Tang San revealed his second Martial Soul, after which Tang Hao embraced him as his son and warned him never to expose the hammer without necessity 23 25.

While Tang San studied at Notting Academy, Tang Hao intervened after Yu Xiaogang's actions left Tang San injured. He forced a physician to treat both Tang San and Yu Xiaogang, but spared Yu Xiaogang because he believed Tang San still needed his guidance and Yu Xiaogang's connection to Bibi Dong 64.

Years later, Tang Hao openly appeared before the Star Luo Imperial Family as the Clear Sky Douluo. Seeking cultivation resources for both the Clear Sky Sect and Tang San, he demanded a major share of the empire's high-grade Whale Rubber stockpile 204 205. His attempt to enforce the demand through Clear Sky True Body was blocked by Dugu Bo's defenses, and his old injuries worsened after the confrontation 205 207.

After Tang San's Eight Spider Lances were forcibly extracted, Tang Hao fought the attacker to protect his son, then returned with him to the Clear Sky Sect to seek treatment. The sect permitted their return only under severe conditions, including Tang San surpassing Tang Hao in reaching Titled Douluo and obtaining a Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring for his Blue Silver Grass 254 255 280.

Tang Hao later confronted Ah Yin after she returned in human form, but she refused to engage with him. When Ah Yin extracted the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline from Tang San, Tang Hao ultimately did not intervene after Tang Xiao urged him to consider the sect's broader interests 288 301. He subsequently supported Tang San's decision to train in the City of Slaughter, despite Tang San having lost one of his Martial Souls 303 308.

At Jialing Pass, Tang Hao learned that the Clear Sky Sect had been annihilated and that Tang Xiao had died. Enraged, he led the surviving sect members into the final battle and used Ring Detonation and the Great Sumeru Hammer at the cost of his life force 330.

Tang Hao is intensely protective of Tang San. He repeatedly acts to conceal, treat, train, or defend his son, including confronting a Titled Douluo-level attacker after Tang San's External Soul Bone was targeted 64 253 254. His protectiveness can become ruthless: he was willing to bring down the Clear Sky Hammer while Tang San was held hostage, trusting his ninth soul skill to save him at the last instant 254.

He is also proud, confrontational, and accustomed to leveraging his status as the Clear Sky Douluo. His demand for up to forty percent of Star Luo's Whale Rubber reserve escalated into direct threats against the imperial family 205.
