Background / History
Wu Ming was born in Wu Village to Wu Qi and Liu Shi. His measured Martial Path aptitude was only lower-middle grade, with four blood-colored “petals” appearing during qualification testing. Despite this, he was considered intelligent and notably steady in temperament. 4 15
In 1898, remnants of demonic energy entered Wu Village and a malevolent spirit invaded Wu Ming. He survived, but was initially left weak and believed to have lost his prospects as a martial artist. The incident instead strengthened his soul, granting him Inner Vision and the ability to perceive his surroundings without opening his eyes. 4 209
He began with the universally practiced Pure Yang Blood-Drawing Stance, entered the Seven Martial Alliance Outer Hall, and trained extensively with the spear. His unusual perceptive insight let him integrate numerous spear techniques and reach Unity of Skill and Art while only at Second Blood Forging. 2 22 53 58
Wu Ming later joined the Cautious Punishment Division, where his advancement to Second Blood Forging earned him promotion to Patrolman. After reaching Third Blood Forging and fighting a Third Transformation Rock Snake Demon, he became one of Jingye City’s most prominent young experts. Division Master Liu Muyuan recognized his talent for Primordial Spirit Daoist arts, accepted him as his third disciple, and imparted the Thunderclap Spear Technique and Divine Firmament Upper Purity Talisman. 56 101 105 106
His subsequent cultivation centered on integrating Martial Path combat with Daoist arts inherited through the Black Emperor’s Demon Subduing Diagram. He became capable of wielding flying swords, constructing formations, manifesting and fusing Dharma Forms, and using lightning methods strong enough to contend with higher-realm opponents. 75 156 236
After entering the Hidden Dragon Academy, Wu Ming cleared all seven entrance-exam gates—the first person in Yong Kingdom to do so in seventy-two years. He later joined Azure Nether Peak in Great Jin, rose through Grandmaster and Dao Saint stages, swept through the Purgatory Abyss as the Purple Firmament Dao Saint, and ultimately attained immortality within the Black Emperor Palace. 187 223 296 301
Appearance
Wu Ming is described as a handsome, slender young man with a calm and composed bearing. Although decades pass during his cultivation, his appearance remains remarkably youthful, creating a sharp contrast with his age and status. 149 249
- Often carries a long spear, particularly during his early rise through Jingye City. 149
- Wore a flying fish uniform while serving under the Cautious Punishment Division. 149
- Later appears in a simple cyan Daoist robe. 274
- His presence can exert suffocating pressure even when he does not openly display his strength. 249
Personality
Wu Ming is consistently restrained and level-headed. Even when he senses a powerful expert spying on him or faces direct provocation, he keeps a calm exterior and assesses the situation before acting. 61 149
He possesses a strong drive toward immortality and deliberately avoids indulgences that might distract him from cultivation. He declines his father’s suggestion that he take Shi Lian as a concubine, choosing instead to focus on cultivation and the threats surrounding him. 119 154
Despite his ambition, he values kindness shown to him and does not forget old ties. He protects the Shi family in remembrance of his late mentor, continues to look after Zhou Huaian after returning to Jingye City, and teaches Xiao Mei basic Daoist cultivation because of her loyalty and aptitude. 119 154 250
His resolve is tempered by self-awareness. Wu Ming recognizes that his inner demons are reflections of his own heart, repeatedly confronts them instead of denying them, and accepts that immortality will ultimately separate him from mortal companions. 183 233 301
