"What do you mean you're back? Weren't you here the whole time?" Both teachers looked at him with puzzlement.
"N—nothing," Shiyu dryly laughed, feeling very unsettled inside. He looked left and right, even pinching himself to confirm that this was indeed the place from before his second transmigration, and that he wasn't dreaming.
"What on earth is going on?" Shiyu was in a complete mess, desperately wishing someone could help him untie the knots of doubt in his heart.
Why did he go back ten thousand years after absorbing a soul ring, why was he able to return, and would he experience yet another transmigration?
There were too many questions he wanted answered, but unfortunately, it seemed he would have to find the answers to these questions himself.
"Could absorbing a soul ring have scrambled his brains?" The two teachers muttered under their breaths.
Shiyu stood up and walked outside somewhat unsteadily; he was very hungry, and his previous hunger had carried over to the present.
Both teachers followed him. In the academy, causing a new student's brain to break still meant someone would be held accountable.
"Take him to the infirmary to get checked out," the two teachers said as they led Shiyu toward the infirmary.
"I'm fine," Shiyu refused, but he was forcefully taken there anyway.
Upon arriving at the infirmary, he was subjected to all sorts of examinations by the school doctor. Some involved the use of instruments, while others probed with soul power.
This world featured medical soul tools capable of performing quite detailed checkups.
"What number is this?" The school doctor even gave Shiyu an IQ test, because the two teachers who brought him along suspected his brain had malfunctioned.
Shiyu was somewhat speechless, yet he cooperated quite well, worried he might be mistaken for an intellectual disability.
"He's fine. He was just hungry for too long; get him something to eat and he'll be right as rain," the school doctor said.
"As long as he's fine," both teachers breathed a sigh of relief.
"Kid, go find yourself something to eat. We're washing our hands of this," they said, leaving once they confirmed Shiyu hadn't broken his brain from absorbing the soul ring.
Shiyu stepped down from the examination bed, intending to leave as well so he could go back and properly sort things out.
"Did you ingest any heavenly materials and earthly treasures?" The school doctor, a middle-aged woman, asked as she looked over some of Shiyu's physical data.
"Why do you ask?" Shiyu countered.
"Your body's cellular activity is astonishing, more exaggerated than many title douluos. This isn't something someone of your age and cultivation should possess," the school doctor teacher looked at Shiyu in sheer amazement.
"I happened to consume a nine-colored begonia flower earlier," Shiyu said after a moment's thought.
"A Nine-Colored Begonia Flower?" The school doctor teacher grew interested and asked for a general description of its appearance.
Shiyu described it as best as he could without holding back, as he also desperately wanted to know what that Nine-Colored Begonia Flower really was.
"Are you sure your description wasn't exaggerated?" The school doctor teacher seemed to think of something and asked for confirmation with some surprise.
"Mm," Shiyu nodded.
"If it truly is as you described, then it might be a Nine-Heart Begonia. You really struck gold."
"This Nine-Heart Begonia is incomparably rare. Your chances of encountering a hundred-thousand-year soul beast are higher than running into one of these. I never expected you to actually cross paths with a plant and even consume it." The school doctor teacher's gaze toward Shiyu held a hint of envy.
It really was a Nine-Heart Begonia... Shiyu had already suspected as much, and now it was confirmed.
"What kind of benefits do I get after consuming this Nine-Heart Begonia? Are there any drawbacks?" Shiyu asked specifically.
"Essentially no drawbacks. As for the benefits, they mainly manifest in injury recovery."
"I just mentioned that your body's cellular activity is astonishing. The most direct manifestation of this is that injuries will heal very quickly after you get hurt."
"Aside from that, you'll rarely fall ill, and your lifespan will be somewhat longer than the average person's."
"Can it immunize me against toxins?" Shiyu asked out of curiosity.
"It should immunize you against some ordinary toxins, but deadly toxins might be out of the question. It's just that if you contract such a deadly toxin, you won't die quite as easily."
The school doctor teacher answered every question put to her and grew quite interested in Ji Huaichu's body, hoping Shiyu would cooperate with her so she could conduct a thorough study.
Shiyu expressed his refusal and left on some random pretext, having zero desire to be studied like a specimen.
He walked out of the infirmary completely distracted, with numerous questions in his mind, and desperately wanted to find somewhere quiet to think.
"Are you alright?" Song Lingzhen happened to arrive and inquired about his condition.
Shiyu's train of thought was interrupted, so he temporarily set those thoughts aside, gently shaking his head at Song Lingzhen to indicate he was fine.
"As long as you're fine. I'll take you to your dormitory now," Song Lingzhen said.
"Sorry to trouble you, teacher," Shiyu said.
Along the way, Song Lingzhen introduced the campus environment of Shrek Academy to Shiyu, and he silently memorized it all.
As they neared the dormitory area, Shiyu couldn't help but think of Mu En, the old man lying at the dormitory entrance.
"Should I go pad my favorability with him?" Shiyu thought about it and decided he probably should; after all, it was just a matter of politely greeting him.
As soon as he entered the dormitory grounds, he spotted a figure lying right there, leisurely rocking in a chair and making a creaking sound.
Shiyu casually pretended to glance at the old man, and the latter happened to open his eyes and see him.
Shiyu had originally intended to speak up and offer a greeting, but at that moment he simply smiled and nodded instead, treating that as a greeting.
Blurting out a direct "hello" or something similar felt rather awkward to him, so he figured he might as well keep it natural and just flash a smile.
Besides, he should be seeing Mu En—who was playing the role of a normal old man here—quite frequently in the future, so waiting a few more visits before chatting wouldn't hurt.
Mu En didn't respond to Shiyu, merely glancing back at him after he passed, his cloudy gaze carrying a trace of faint light.
"Space martial soul?" Mu En muttered inwardly, which caught him somewhat by surprise.
"Your dormitory is One One Eight. Walk down this way about halfway and you'll see it," Song Lingzhen said as she pointed it out to him upon reaching the first-floor hallway.
"Got it," Shiyu walked off in that direction by himself.
As for Song Lingzhen, she left, having no intention of accompanying Shiyu any further.
Shiyu continually scanned the dormitory numbers on both sides, paying special attention to One Zero Eight. Huo Yuhao seemed to live in that dorm.
Of course, that assumed Huo Yuhao had already entered Shrek Academy.
He glanced twice as he passed One Zero Eight. The door was closed, and there was no telling whether anyone had moved in yet or what the situation was.
He didn't linger, quickly finding his own assigned dormitory, One One Eight. The door was open, and before even stepping inside, he saw two middle-aged men busy at work.
One person was sweeping the floor, while another was making a bed.
Knock, knock, knock. Shiyu politely tapped on the door, and both men turned to look at him.
"I'm a first-year student assigned to this dorm. Might I ask who you are?" Shiyu inquired.
One could tell from their ages that these two weren't students; they were either hired by the academy to clean or hired by his roommate for that purpose.
"Our young master lives in this dormitory. We're helping him clean and make the bed. He went to get some food just now, and should be back once he finishes," one of them said.
The other person remained silently busy and paid Shiyu no mind.
