The quality of a school depended on its faculty. However, without a detailed investigation, no one could know exactly how strong a school's faculty was. The best approach was to judge its overall strength by observing the size of its grounds and the quality of its food, clothing, and daily provisions.

Of course, do not think that one-tenth was small. It should be measured against structures like those, not merely against an entire academy.
