The temporary base Tawell had built in two days was designed according to the classic layout of a Pioneering Exploration Station: such stations used relatively dense asteroids as anchor points, constructed a framework from superalloy, and set up numerous landing platforms and small ports along the framework's edges for Engineering Drones and various spacecraft to dock at. Primary and secondary engineering nodes were distributed along the inner ring of the framework. These facilities were responsible for initially cutting and scanning the collected samples, removing worthless ore and debris, then sending valuable, roughly processed mineral samples to the Material Transfer Station. Through hyperspace equipment, the Material Transfer Station directly sent the mineral samples to the large laboratory at the center of the base. This simple and efficient system ensured that the entire station operated at peak efficiency at all times, while continuously extending into the surrounding space as its accompanying drone swarms and engineering ships expanded. Once it developed to a certain level, a Pioneering Exploration Station could be upgraded into a Space Bunker or Military Node. Modular Imperial equipment needed only slight modifications to build a Space City atop those crisscrossing superalloy frameworks. In fact, the Kuiper Belt base in the Capital World had started out this way: its predecessor had been nothing more than a Pioneering Exploration Station.
Starting with a basic pioneering station, continuously upgrading its structure, and eventually evolving it into advanced facilities such as supply stations, space fortresses, colonial cities, and Military Nodes was one of the Empire's common upgrade processes for space facilities.
Of course, there were no plans to upgrade this Pioneering Exploration Station to that extent. Although Sandora had considered bringing this remote world into Imperial territory and developing it into a core military-industrial universe, the Asteroid Belt serving as a mining ground
