This was our first night in the God Realm. Maybe I was having trouble sleeping in an unfamiliar bed, but I never felt settled that night. I kept drifting between sleep and wakefulness, as if thoughts were constantly turning in my head and refusing to quiet down. Yet whenever I tried to figure out what exactly I was thinking about, I could never come up with anything. I lay there in that half-conscious haze, vaguely feeling that the night was almost over, then vaguely sensing that the door had moved, and even that someone was walking around the room—but that had to be an illusion. With my current senses and vigilance, if someone approached, I should have snapped awake instantly.
But soon enough, I really did sense someone in the room. That person had circled halfway around the bed and was now standing in front of me.
I cracked my eyes open and, through the haze, saw a figure standing beside the bed. She was tall and graceful, with her back to the window. The backlight obscured her face, leaving only a few strands of silver-white hair drifting faintly through the night. As my gaze rose, a pair of blood-red eyes met mine in the darkness—dead, cold, and utterly vacant.
