Background / History

Born to a prominent musical family, Eden was already an admired and approachable student before her public career. She helped classmates regardless of background and explained music and art in accessible, romantic terms, earning broad affection at school. Her talent, beauty, and family standing made her a conspicuously admired figure. 124

Eden first took an interest in Xi Wang after recognizing his exceptional musical ability and noticing that he deliberately removed emotional “color” from later compositions. When he repeatedly avoided her, she enlisted a teacher's help to find him and directly confronted him about it. Their shared values, compatible personalities, and love of music quickly brought them close, though Xi Wang initially maintained distance because of hostility from other students. 127 128 129

At an elite art academy, Eden specialized in classical music and opera. She and Xi Wang differed musically—Eden favored classical works and opera while he leaned toward popular music—but used those differences to critique and improve each other's work.
