Kong Deming had served as Hall Master of the Hall of Enshrinement for at least a century by the age of 150. His imperial bloodline, personal strength, and Soul Tool expertise made him the royal family’s principal safeguard. Initially, he was described as impartial in succession struggles and loyal only to the imperial family; his presence also allowed the court to tolerate Jing Hongchen’s control of Illustrious Virtue Hall despite Jing lacking imperial ancestry 25 93.

His doubts about continental unification concerned divine interference rather than the empire’s military strength. The Royal Offering Hall preserved knowledge of why earlier unification wars had failed, and Kong Deming was likely the only surviving person who knew the full explanation. He eventually questioned Su Yu directly about whether gods should interfere with the Lower Realm 27 124.

Taking Su Yu as his disciple

Kong Deming met Su Yu after learning of his unusually rapid Soul Engineer certification. He accepted him as a personal disciple and arranged instruction during the first week of every month at the Royal Offering Hall. Although aware that Su Yu had recently emigrated from the Star Luo Empire, he did not reject him over his origins; he instead examined his attitude and understanding of the continent’s political situation 27.
