Early Life

After misfortune struck her family in the Land of Whirlpools, Karin and her mother wandered through the Ninja World. They were eventually taken in by the Land of Grass, but at a severe personal cost: the village used them as tools for healing injuries and replenishing chakra. Karin's mother died as a result of this exploitation. 90 103

Karin later became a Grass ninja and entered the Chunin Exams. Her teammates treated her as a “mobile spring” rather than a comrade, leaving her to separate from them and attempt to survive on her own. 90

Chunin Exams

Karin is attacked by a giant bear after losing her glasses. Naruto rescues her, retrieves the glasses she cannot function without, and gives her the security she had lacked among her own teammates. She introduces herself as Karin Uzumaki and chooses to follow him through the exam. 64
