Linglong clearly had many considerations in mind, but she did not spell them out to Xiang Yang. Xiang Yang was tactful enough to simply regard himself as hired muscle; as long as the reward afterward was generous, that was enough.
Linglong jumped down from the little donkey's docile, sleek back and lightly patted its spine. The little donkey swayed its tail and clopped away on its four tiny hooves, heading back by itself with remarkable intelligence.
The two then darted toward the depths of Mo Mountain. Along the way, they continued exchanging information, though for the most part Xiang Yang listened while Linglong spoke.

Having just crossed three mountaintops, the two heard waves of exceptionally deep and resonant beast roars. The sound waves spread outward, startling flocks of birds from the forests into the air, while a billowing cloud of dust rose in the distant sky.
"That sound should belong to the Bear King. Did he encounter a beast king of the same rank, or has he run into an expert?"
From Linglong, Xiang Yang had learned that because of the eruption of
