Dormammu looked at the energy saturating the parchment, which gave him a headache and made him sick, then looked at Mephisto as if he were insane. Who would dare sign a contract like that?
"Because only the Abyss can ensure that both sides abide by the contract. Our worlds have both suffered the Abyss's corruption, and we have both dealt with and come into contact with Abyssal Energy. No one understands how troublesome the Abyss is better than we do. Precisely because we understand it, we won't break the contract lightly." Mephisto spoke with conviction.
Dormammu fell silent for a moment. Though he felt that Mephisto was playing tricks, he could not refute a single word he had said.
"The contract works both ways. If we fulfill what we promised, then once you pay the reward, the deal is complete. The Abyssal Energy within the contract will not affect us. But if either party fails to do what the contract states, they will face an even deeper Abyss once again. This is not a threat, but a safeguard for both of us!" Mephisto spoke eloquently. "Only by signing it can we begin to establish trust. You don't want your Dark Dimension to be occupied by the Abyss, do you? Or are you planning to freeload off us?"
By the end, Mephisto's tone and expression had turned stern. Odin and Ancient One, who were present as well, both turned their gazes toward Dormammu's avatar, making Dormammu feel considerable pressure.
"Of course I will abide by the contract." Dormammu's eyes flickered. "If you can truly help me solve the Abyss problem."
"We cannot solve the Abyss problem for you. At present, all we can do is help you keep the Abyss
