Finally Fattened Up

"Me?"

Barry pointed at himself with a look of utter surprise, while everyone in the lab turned their eyes toward him.

"How can I help?"

"I need your speed."

Yinsen's words left everyone thoroughly confused, so he had no choice but to explain what the Speed Force was.

Yinsen did not actually know all that much about the Speed Force, but the people before him had never even heard of it. Today was the first time they had learned of such a thing from Yinsen, and Barry finally understood that the reason he could run so fast was because of the Speed Force.

"Not Dark Matter?"

Everyone, including Barry himself at that moment—except for the Reverse-Flash disguised as Harrison Wells—had always believed his special abilities had been caused by the Dark Matter released by the Particle Accelerator explosion. Yet Yinsen was now telling him that the true source of his power was something called the Speed Force, completely different from what he had originally assumed.

"So... you want the power called the Speed Force?"

"Yes."

With Yinsen's explanation, everyone finally understood his goal: to obtain the power called the Speed Force from Barry.

"How?"

"For now, we can only wait for you to run faster and faster."

"You want me to run faster and faster?"

Barry's running form, the length of his stride, barely changed at all. His posture did not change much either, yet his speed kept increasing. That was the effect of the Speed Force.

The closeness of Barry's connection to the Speed Force—or rather, how much Speed Force Barry himself "created"—directly affected his speed. Conversely, that meant the faster Barry was, the more Speed Force he possessed.

If Yinsen wanted the Speed Force, then he needed Barry to become fast enough.
