He had guessed right.
He had gotten it exactly right.
When Wen Xishu read the second of the two supplementary rules, he finally understood the key to the Deer Island Game.
At the beginning, the television said there were four survivors...
And at that point, there were four people in my house, including me. Looking at it that way, there seemed to be some sort of rule where believing made it real. Perhaps the four survivors were the four people in the house.
But in reality, I knew perfectly well, and so did those three, that they weren't human.
So that was merely a coincidence. In fact, there really were three other living humans on this island.
And not long ago, I met a human, a genuine survivor.
That survivor was strongly opposed to me opening the door. That's clue one.
Clue two: on the second day of the game, all the monsters outside could invade my mind at will.
That might have included the Mage. That's why I had that strange dream.
Wen Xishu didn't believe he was lucky enough to just happen to have an interesting dream whose scenes just happened to answer certain questions.
Clue two: monsters can invade minds and create illusions, but they can also use that... to pass on information.
Clue three: the dream itself. The police officer said all that remained to Purify Deer Island was opening the door. But combined with clue one, the survivor opposed me opening it.
And Purify Deer Island... that phrase differs from Survivor Defense Battle. Taken literally, Purify Deer Island sounds more like eliminating evil.
And judging by the human survivor's resistance in clue one, the humans probably know something: there are monsters in the house.
*Then there's clue four, which I discovered not long ago-they may
