Background

Wen Xishu was an eighteen-year-old death-row prisoner whose execution was initially scheduled immediately due to the Wen family's crimes. After transmigrating into his body, he regained lucidity and used a recalled clue about his elder brother, Wen Chaohua, to halt his execution for interrogation. 1 2 3

Before the Wen family's downfall, Wen Chaohua gave him a mysterious legacy: three differently colored dice said to overturn the known rules of the Three Towers Game. Wen Xishu initially did not know how to use them. 2

After being assigned to the Strange Tower and entering the Three Towers Game, Wen Xishu completed the Jack incident with Level 6 Completeness. His reward, a hospital containing plague treatment, transformed medical access on the Bunker's lower levels and made him a public hero. 17 22 23

His success also intensified the Security Bureau's suspicion that he possessed information connected to Wen Chaohua. Wen Xishu endured torture and truth-serum interrogation without divulging his secrets before Albert Napolitano intervened and brought him to Three Towers Academy. 20 25 26

To avoid retaliation from prominent families aware of the Wen family's reputation, Albert assigned him the temporary name Wen Xun. He was enrolled in the Tower of Slaughter Academy while continuing to explore the Tower of Deception under pressure from the Security Bureau. 29 30 36

Albert later publicly identified Wen Xun as Wen Xishu, explaining that they had agreed he no longer needed to conceal his identity. His roommates learned the truth during this announcement. 125

Previous Life and Shared Identity

Before transmigration, Wen Xishu pursued dangerous extreme-sports challenges, including skydiving while solving Rubik's Cubes before opening his parachute at the last possible moment. His childhood left lasting emotional wounds, and he later recalled his parents dying in a fire and questioning his own worth. 1 336

The original Wen Xishu's consciousness did not simply disappear. Memories of Wen Chaohua initially surfaced during interrogation, and later events established that another soul remained within the body. The original soul's intense love for his elder brother supplied overwhelming emotion when the Aquarius Attendant distorted their memories. 25 154 155

Wen Chaohua subsequently addressed both occupants of the body as people he had sought to protect. Wen Xishu increasingly treated the original soul as a companion rather than merely the body's former owner, consulting him about meeting their deceased family and drawing emotional stability from his memories of Wen Chaohua. 170 171 268 336

Sinland and the Wen Family's Sacrifice

The Tea-Selling Old Man's encounter first led Wen Xishu to question whether his transmigration was connected to Sinland. He feared that resurrection or restoration to an earlier bodily state might displace him and therefore selected lifespan extension instead. 149

In the Netherworld, Wen Tingyun revealed that the Wen family had died for a plan connected to Wen Chaohua obtaining something important. Even some participating family members did not know the plan's full purpose. This changed Wen Xishu's understanding of relatives previously remembered only as the original soul's childhood tormentors. 268 269

The Pen Master later confirmed that he and Wen Xishu both came from Sinland. The Pen Master described himself as the first arrival, dating from before the apocalypse, and identified Wen Xishu as probably the second. Wen Xishu stated that he had been in the tower world for half a year. The Pen Master's suggestion that Wen Xishu's arrival might concern him remained a hypothesis rather than an established explanation. 424

Appearance

Wen Xishu has a lean, agile build and is described as passably handsome. He keeps his original appearance rather than altering it through the Three Towers system, viewing public recognition as protection. 17 30

  • Thin, athletic physique compared to Bruce Lee's lean build. 30
  • Long hair in need of a haircut after his first tower expedition. 17
  • Highly mobile and capable of professional parkour movements despite inhabiting a new body after transmigration. 8
  • Compared with Blue Star Wen Xishu 045, he has more visibly developed arm muscles and lacks the other's exhausted, sunken-eyed appearance. 399
  • Mutated Slaughter can radically replace his human appearance with forms such as black bandage-like organisms, a body covered in ears, or a many-legged centipede. These are conditional transformations rather than his ordinary appearance. 260 335 336

Personality

Wen Xishu is calm, analytical, and highly adaptive. Faced with execution, interrogation, unfamiliar tower rules, or dangerous missions, he rapidly gathers information and looks for an advantage rather than panicking. 2 3 20

He is pragmatic about survival and reputation. He deliberately keeps his real appearance and seeks notoriety because public recognition raises the political cost of killing him. 17 He also uses ambiguity to control how others perceive him, at times presenting himself as unstable or dangerous to unsettle enemies and prospective teammates. 21 40

Despite his ruthlessness, Wen Xishu can be protective and empathetic toward people he considers worth helping. He reassures Jennifer, investigates Jack's suffering rather than simply escaping, and chooses to preserve Zheng Zai after recognizing the source of his loss of control. 8 11 43 46

His caution initially extends even to seemingly trustworthy companions: he considers that kindness and sincerity can be performed and entertains killing his entire Fallen Parrot team if their conduct warrants it. His habit of assuming incompetent teammates and opponents is a deliberate worst-case planning method rather than simply an expression of arrogance. 55 66

Over time, he develops genuine trust and attachment. By his later academy life, he recognizes that he has reliable companions and teachers, fulfilling needs left unmet in his previous world. Albert explicitly notices his change from a profoundly insecure youth who trusted no one to someone unwilling to abandon weaker teammates. 245 314

Wen Xishu increasingly defines his purpose as allowing good people to survive and win, even when the morally preferable route is difficult. He rejects Aquarius's claim to determine whether a person is good or evil and refuses to invalidate his previous rescues by accepting an easier, corrupting solution. 343 354 360

This development does not erase his pragmatism. When questioned after the Three Towers Company mission, he refuses to dilute his authority to save a hypothetical minor participant, reasoning that preserving his benefits would allow him to accomplish more. Conversely, when asked about Tang Rui, he admits her personal importance and refuses to undo her advancement for a potentially stronger future candidate. 387 397

Abilities & Skills

Weird Sequence 37: Mental Barrage

Wen Xishu possesses Mental Barrage, a Weird Sequence that lets him perceive text-like manifestations of a person's thoughts when they experience extreme emotions. 18 27

  • Reveals thoughts produced during extreme happiness, sadness, fear, or anger. 27
  • Allowed him to see Albert Napolitano's amusement immediately after waking from interrogation. 27
  • Can be perceived outside the Tower of Deception. 27
  • The sequence's effects are tied to the target's emotional intensity. 27
  • His own inner thoughts can materialize at certain moments; this counts as a summoning effect. 57
  • At extreme emotional intensity, his thoughts can also appear as comments visible to a specific target. 57
  • Materialized comments can be controlled by expending sufficient Tower Power. He had not fully mastered this offensive application during the Museum mission. 57 103
  • The Sequence cannot be traded. Jack explains that the power he gave Wen Xishu was unique and eventually disappeared from Jack's own body. 57 111

Its known runes include:

  • Mixed Feelings — Listed as an incorporated rune on his post-Deer Island panel. 136
  • Guide of the Dead / Spirit Guidance — Allows information to be obtained through the thoughts of spirits, potentially revealing a deceased person's life, nearby dangers, or an enemy's abilities. This reduces his dependence on interrogating targets before killing them. 133 136

Mad Dice

A legacy from Wen Chaohua, the Mad Dice exist as three differently colored dice in Wen Xishu's mind and can produce abnormal game effects not bound by ordinary rules. 2

  • Rolled three sixes during his return to the Tower of Deception. 38
  • Selected the effects Three-Phase Power and Unimpeded Passage after rolling 666. 38
  • Wen Xishu considers using the dice to bypass restrictions on transferring items between towers. 18
  • Three-Phase Power allows him to use powers normally restricted to other towers, including Sequence powers in the Desire Tower. 38 48
  • Rolled one, three, and five when beginning his fourth Strange Tower challenge. 85
  • A later effect temporarily converted his Strange Tower attributes into corresponding Slaughter and Desire Tower powers, greatly increasing his physical strength and speed. 148
  • Selected Lovebirds in Flight before entering the Eerie Competition with Zheng Zai. 248
  • Selected Smooth Sailing, Unimpeded Passage, Two-Stage Chain, and Damage Cap before the confrontation with Sagittarius. 289
  • Upside Down removed negative effects and supplied strengthening buffs when the Balance Will erased him, restoring his body twice during that confrontation. Its uses were limited. 312

The dice are not something the Strange Tower can faithfully simulate. When it constructed Wen Xishu 001, it substituted extraordinary innate talent for the unsimulated item, producing a markedly different version of his ascent. 410

Slaughter Sequence 199: Limit Break Kick

Wen Xishu owns Limit Break Kick, a tradable Slaughter Sequence used for devastating kicks and football attacks. 113

  • Combines with the Murder Football for lethal ranged attacks. 151 216
  • With Superb Skill, he can direct ricochets with precision comparable to a snooker player's control. 151
  • Can also accelerate his movement; during the train mission, a kick-assisted burst combined with converted physical attributes made him appear as an afterimage. 151
  • Its charged Sequence Ultimate, Super Limit Break Kick, killed Antoine, Nicolas, and Reno in one shot. Horn and Hugo had to protect him while he prepared it. 216
  • Repeated use against dream monsters increased its proficiency during the Balance City scenario. 305

Three Towers Sequence 35: Tower Power Absorption

Tower Power Absorption is an untradable Three Towers Sequence acquired after the jar mission. 147

  • Absorbs supernatural power from suitable sources into his Tower Power reserves. 199
  • Drained an orange-quality Demon Blade until it lost its aggression-inducing and strength-enhancing properties, raising his Tower Power to 27. 199
  • Forms part of his standard seven-Sequence loadout recorded after the Eerie Competition. 259

Eerie Sequence 58: Mutated Slaughter

Mutated Slaughter, obtained through the Eerie Competition, transforms Wen Xishu into an eerie creature during life-threatening combat. Its rune, Unnameable Desire, shapes transformations around his immediate needs or desires. 259 335 384

  • During the Bunker assassination attempt, his body unraveled into controllable black bandage-like organisms with distributed sensory organs. Their spread allowed him to observe the academy from many positions. 260
  • A form covered in ears could hear sounds from other areas of the Land of Termination; thin organisms emerging from the ears pierced enemy ropes and drained the Hanged Men's power. 335 336
  • A centipede form could pass through invisible, rule-imposed boundaries, although this did not automatically overcome physical walls. 336
  • A desire to break through enemies produced sharp spikes, strengthened extra arms, and blade-like nails. 337
  • He can deliberately injure himself to trigger the dangerous conditions needed for mutation and related effects. 337

Other Sequences and Rune Powers

Ability Known function or status
Personality Party Included in his standard seven-Sequence loadout after the Eerie Competition. 259
Perfect Parry Included in his standard seven-Sequence loadout after the Eerie Competition. 259
Stick to the Rules Included in his standard seven-Sequence loadout after the Eerie Competition. 259
Slaughter Sequence 205: Killing Intent Lockdown Suppresses his desire to attack, preventing detection through fighting desire or killing intent while active. 173
Avenger's Burden Gradually reduces the holder's surviving blood relatives to fewer than three; in exchange, strengthens suppression and damage against opponents according to their hatred of the holder. Wen Xishu considered its family-related drawback largely irrelevant to his circumstances. 316 384
Earth-over Marsh Trapped Beast A power given by Sirius that grants a terrain advantage under severe injury or danger. Its gravitational suppression was amplified dozens of times by Avenger's Burden against 015. 335 384
Nightmare Absolution Grants random exemption from rules associated with certain dream-attacking enemies. It allowed Wen Xishu to survive the Painter's lethal dream and regenerate severe bodily damage there. 305
Time Stop Used three times during his sudden attack on the Curator to assess the target's smallest movements. 188
Shadow summoning Can summon a shadow that displays its own reactions and can assist with environmental problems, including shutting the Glutton's refrigerator. 336
Mental guardian Gained by interpreting a painting's library as his inner world; protects against mental invasion. 423

Sagittarius's Assistance

Wen Xishu can invoke Sagittarius through powers associated with a Sagittarius-marked die. This gives him access to attacks far beyond his ordinary personal strength, although Sagittarius remains a separate being rather than a measure of Wen Xishu's base combat level. 312 314 326

  • Used Fated Duel to draw Sagittarius into the mortal world while Albert protected him. 289
  • Activated Starfall by touching the marked die to the Balance Will's incarnation, enabling Sagittarius's Godslaying Arrow to destroy the incarnation, prevent its regeneration, and destroy the Golden Scales. 312
  • Summoned Sagittarius to hold Aquarius at arrow-point while he entered the Good and Evil Corridor to rescue Liu Jianxin. 360

Deduction and Manipulation

Wen Xishu excels at reading situations, identifying mission logic, and pressuring others into actions that benefit his plans.

  • Deduced that Jennifer's mission involved more than simply escorting her from the building, then used an Invitation Letter to continue investigating. 8
  • Identified key details in Jack's emotional history and used them to establish rapport with him. 11 13
  • Exploited his teammates' fear and indecision during the Fallen Parrot mission, maneuvering them into taking purification risks. 43 45
  • Withheld his identity or invoked Albert's backing when it increased his leverage with other climbers. 47 48
  • Recognized that Miracle Tower amplified its residents' existing psychological traits and connected their abnormalities to fear. 68
  • Deduced that the Deer Island Game required helping humans leave rather than admitting them into houses, despite misleading surface rules. 130
  • Recognized that the Storytelling Club's distinction between evil and justice depended on perspective, allowing him to count his rescues as evil deeds against the town's true villain. 165
  • Used the Three Towers Company's recruitment and auction rules to eliminate A District and transfer its assets and outstanding debt to D District. 379
  • Exploited the Pen Master's answer-writing rules to turn interpretations of paintings into real protections. 423

Mobility and Physical Training

Wen Xishu was an extreme-sports enthusiast and parkour expert before transmigration. 8

  • Descends and navigates hazardous terrain with exceptional speed and coordination. 8
  • Studies combat and physical training at the Tower of Slaughter Academy. 30
  • Chose the Tower of Slaughter as his academic major despite specializing in the Tower of Deception. 30
  • Uses rapid reactions to evade and counter enemies even when his movement speed itself is not superior. 79
  • Combines climbing, ventilation-duct traversal, compass-assisted tracking, and close- and long-range attacks for assassination-style missions. 133
  • Albert's example teaches him to regard his own trained body, conviction, and willingness to fight as more fundamental than equipment. 287

Equipment / Items

  • Black Login Device — Wrist-mounted device used to enter the Three Towers Game. 4
  • Invitation Letter — Can pause a mission and grant three consecutive Tower of Desire traversals without failure penalties. 8 46
  • Truth Serum Wine Cups — Reward for his Tower of Desire performance; makes the drinker answer truthfully to the cup-holder's questions. 18 48 49
  • Forgot My Keys — Low-stat gloves borrowed from the Materials Department; provide Attack +5 and exceptionally high damage against doors. 37
  • Level Six Hospital — Facility reward selected after the Jack incident and brought back to the Bunker. 17
  • Scorpion Dagger / Scorpio's Cheating Knife — A multifunctional item associated with Scorpio. Its features include a friends communication channel, Static Health Bar, Plugin Eye, and reporting game loopholes; available functions are constrained by Tower Power and the item's capacity. 109 148 289 400
  • Faux Fate Compass — Guides him toward objectives and useful items, including equipment suited to specific Museum stages and mission locations in Wind City. 103 117
  • Murder Football — Selected from the Museum and used as a ranged killing weapon. Supports specialized shots and combines with Limit Break Kick and its ultimate. 103 216
  • Dare Wine Cups — Selected alongside the Murder Football when the Museum lifted its item restrictions. 103
  • Godslayer Finger — Used to identify unclean contents in jars. Outside the instance, it became a consumable that could grant Spiritual Perception if devoured; Wen Xishu considered that perception less necessary because he already possessed the Compass. 145 147
  • Friendship Controller — Allows a cooperating user to control Wen Xishu's movements and attacks. Horn used it to coordinate him and protect companions during the Sin Sea battle. 205 207
  • Collected misfortune — Received a bottle of misfortune after escaping Yoshida Xiaohui's Human Hole and was instructed to gather more from other Human Holes. 180
  • Sagittarius-marked die — Set into a ring during the Balance Will battle; contact with the enemy enabled the invocation of Starfall. 312
  • Ten-Thousand Sword Manor — A facility beyond Level Seven that supplies renowned swords to the Bunker. Its owner periodically receives weapons of at least purple quality and can smelt unwanted weapons into Tower Power. Residents' overall chivalry affects sword prices. 363 364

Relationships

  • Wen Chaohua — Elder blood brother and the Bunker's most notorious criminal; left Wen Xishu the Mad Dice and remains central to the Security Bureau's interest in him. His later appearance confirms that he sought to protect both the transmigrator and the original soul. 2 25 37 170 171
  • Original Wen Xishu — The body's original soul and Wen Chaohua's deeply devoted younger brother. His emotional responses can affect their shared body and powers, and he increasingly cooperates with the transmigrator. 155 268 336
  • Albert Napolitano — Principal of Three Towers Academy; rescued Wen Xishu from interrogation, enrolled him in the academy, and acts as an eccentric mentor. Publicly revealed his identity, supported his exploration of all Three Towers, and protected him during the Sagittarius confrontation. 25 26 29 85 125 289
  • Liu Jinsen — Security Bureau officer who recognizes Wen Xishu's value and attempts to protect him within the limits of his authority. 20 36
  • Sha Ruijing — Bunker official who orchestrated publicity around Wen Xishu's hospital reward, helping establish his public image as a hero. 22
  • Jennifer — Three Towers child whom Wen Xishu protects during the Jack incident; her safety and happiness are central to his first major mission. Her Slaughter Tower counterpart later appears among his communication contacts. 8 11 109
  • Jack — A tragic Tower inhabitant whom Wen Xishu questions, assists, and ultimately earns as a friend in Moen City. Gave him Mental Barrage as thanks for bringing Jennifer back, eventually losing the unique ability himself. 11 14 111
  • Yue Yun — Academy roommate who initially idolizes Wen Xishu without realizing that Wen Xun is the person he seeks to surpass. Learns the truth at Albert's announcement and later refuses the Chosen Train's offer to obtain Wen Xishu's talents by sacrificing him. 30 125 157
  • Nissen — Academy roommate and fellow treasure seeker; becomes a dependable companion in later tower expeditions. A future version recognizes and attempts to protect Wen Xishu during his temporal journey. 30 33 157 222
  • Zheng Zai — Fellow Tower of Deception climber whose cannibalistic urges Wen Xishu manages rather than immediately condemning; Zheng Zai becomes deeply grateful to him. A recurring teammate who refuses to sacrifice him aboard the Chosen Train and joins him in the Eerie Competition. 42 43 46 157 248
  • Ji Boda and Liu Ruyan — Tower of Desire climbers and later academy teachers who provide Wen Xishu with mission intelligence while becoming increasingly curious about his identity. 8 47
  • Tang Rui — A mission target who becomes personally important to him through mutual recognition of their unhappy pasts. Wen Xishu later investigates her connection to Jiangcheng City's horrors and chooses her for Ascension rather than preserving the opportunity for someone potentially stronger. 48 49 389 397
  • Wen Renjing — Senior climber and Wen Chaohua's friend. Cooperates with Wen Xishu against the priest and in Hujiang, eventually recognizing him as an exceptional climber in his own right rather than merely the beneficiary of his brother's legacy. 59 169 184 191
  • Xun Hui — Powerful senior climber and combat ally. Accompanies Wen Xishu in the Slaughter Tower and helps protect the group from a Red House's memory invasion through Selfless State. 110 245 289

  • Wen Xiange — Devout member of the Xishu Divine Church and teammate in Miracle Tower. Initially treats Wen Xishu as a fellow believer rather than recognizing him as the faith's central figure. 66 70
  • A Miao — Miracle Tower teammate and later companion aboard the Chosen Train. Refuses the ritual that would sacrifice Wen Xishu. 66 70 157
  • An Jincheng and An Youxuan — Brothers whose fates he changes in Qi City. Their Slaughter Tower counterparts become contacts and later accept an opportunity to repay him during the rescue associated with the parallel-self trial. 79 109 110 410
  • Horn — Ark dissident and aspiring new master of the Ark. Becomes Wen Xishu's friend, coordinates his attacks through the Friendship Controller, and supports efforts to free Sirius as part of opposing the captain. 205 207 216
  • Sirius — Reveals itself through the defeated Sin Sea Behemoth projection and asks Wen Xishu to save it from imprisonment in the Ark. Grants him Earth-over Marsh Trapped Beast; Wen Xishu later wants to preserve Sirius despite Scorpio's conflicting intentions. 205 227 384
  • Scorpio — A major source of game-related assistance through the Cheating Knife. Wen Xishu values the help and seeks friendship but remains wary of hidden plans, particularly where Sirius and Leo are concerned. 109 227 328 409
  • Sagittarius — Initially drawn into confrontation through Fated Duel, later becomes an ally whose summoned attacks provide Wen Xishu with an extraordinary trump card. 289 312 360 426
  • Pisces — A time-related Constellation whose predictions do not fully account for Wen Xishu. Alternates between threat and cooperation, eventually seeking his ability to alter otherwise fixed futures. 85 221 343
  • Aquarius — An increasingly hostile Constellation whose corruption of good people conflicts with Wen Xishu's choices. Wen Xishu undermines sources of Aquarius's power and intervenes to save Liu Jianxin from the Good and Evil Corridor. 329 343 360 430
  • Leo / Leon — A powerful Constellation Wen Xishu finds unexpectedly uncomplicated and potentially worthy of friendship, complicating his knowledge of a future conflict fought alongside Scorpio against Leo. 227 328
  • Liu Jianxin — A martial-world figure whom Wen Xishu guides toward chivalry rather than killing for an easier completion. Their shared struggle against the Heart Wall helps awaken Liu Jianxin's swordheart. 354 358 360
  • Wen Tingyun — Older paternal cousin who bullied the original Wen Xishu in childhood. Their Netherworld encounter reveals his grief, regret, and participation in the Wen family's sacrifice, allowing Wen Xishu and the original soul to move beyond childhood fear. 268 269
  • Mr. Jin — A powerful Bunker figure whose changed behavior arouses Wen Xishu's suspicion. Evidence surrounding the assassination attempt and the Netherworld Death Register leads Wen Xishu to theorize that Mr. Jin may have targeted him for the Madman's Dice; this remains a suspicion in the cited investigation. 248 262 268
  • Wen Xishu 001 — An extraordinarily powerful parallel self whom the Strange Tower created without successfully reproducing the Mad Dice. Becomes Wen Xishu 046's partner and principal rival in the Land of a Hundred Mes. 400 406 410
  • Pen Master — Another transmigrator from Sinland. Their encounter reveals a shared origin and a three-phase-patterned pen that Wen Xishu considers unlikely to resemble his own legacy by coincidence. 423 424
