Background

Uzushio survivor

Kushina was born into the declining Uzumaki Clan and lost both parents in battle while still very young. Afterward, she raised her younger brother, Katsuki, herself, making his safety her foremost concern. 2 3

When the Uzumaki elders proposed sending the siblings to Konoha as the clan’s remaining “seeds,” Kushina fiercely resisted leaving Uzushio and her parents’ resting place. Though willing to remain and die with the village, she considered sending Katsuki away alone to preserve their family line. 2 3

Mist Ninja invaded the Land of Whirlpools before the siblings’ departure could be completed. Kushina was captured during the attack and watched the village burn while fearing for Katsuki’s life. She and Katsuki ultimately reached Konoha as the last known Uzumaki survivors recovered by Sakumo’s ANBU team. 7 8 9

Life in Konoha

Kushina and Katsuki were received by the Senju family through their kinship with Mito Uzumaki. Tsunade helped the displaced siblings settle into the Senju residence, while Kushina gradually accepted Konoha as a home because of the people she cared about there. 9 10 40

At the Ninja Academy, Kushina publicly declared her dream of becoming Konoha’s first female Hokage. Her ambition nearly drew ridicule until Minato Namikaze voiced his own dream of becoming Hokage, defusing the classroom’s reaction. 14

Inheriting the Nine-Tails

Personality
