New Domino City, Detention Center.
Two Security Officers walked with cold expressions, one on each side supporting Fudo Yusei by the arms. Yusei was escorted between them, calmly assessing his surroundings as he walked.
After passing through a long, narrow metal corridor, they arrived at a vast courtyard. Crisscrossing narrow walkways filled its center, while dense rows of cell-like cages lined every direction, countless prisoners locked behind their bars.
The one common feature on all their faces was a small yellow mark.
It was a mark that every prisoner entering the prison was required to receive. Yusei had one on his face as well, just beneath his left eye.
The mark was somewhat like the facial tattoos criminals received in ancient times, openly branding them as guilty people of lower standing. Only, this mark was more advanced than a tattoo, containing a tracking chip. Any prisoner branded with it could never escape the Security Maintenance Bureau's tracking, no matter where he ran.
Though that had originally been the mark's purpose, it later became Yusei's personal symbol instead. The more one looked at it, the better it seemed.
Still, his was nothing much. In the anime, Yusei's good friend Crow Hogan, who used a Blackwing Deck, had a truly spectacular face. Nearly every spot that could be branded had been branded. Anyone unaware of the situation might have taken it for the abstract masterpiece of some naughty little friend.
The two guards brought him into the Detention Center, then strode away. Yusei quietly observed the surroundings for a moment when he suddenly heard someone call his name.
"Yusei!"
He turned toward the voice and saw a burly man striding over. He had blue hair, and his hairstyle looked like it was probably quite skilled at playing cards too.
