Diwein turned around and called out his subordinate's name. But his voice sank into the darkness like a stone into the sea, without the slightest response.

Diwein took two steps back, his back bumping into another subordinate. This one was still there, but he had also realized something was wrong and began warily scanning both sides.

The extinguished lights flickered once.

The next moment, it was as though a gust of chilling wind had swept past. Diwein instinctively raised an arm before his face, his eyelids briefly closing. But in that single blink, when he turned back around, the subordinate who had been behind him a second ago had vanished as well.

Diwein was horrified.

Both men had disappeared in an instant. From the lights going out to the first man's disappearance, no more than two seconds had passed.
