The name alone made it clear that this tournament was exclusive to Riding Duels. Unlike the Fortune Cup, where contestants without D-Wheels or licenses could still participate and traditional Standing Duel events were available. Contestants without vehicles, like Aki Izayoi at the time, competed in the traditional format.
But WRPG required Riding Duels exclusively. Without a D-Wheel and a license, one could not register for the tournament. Moreover, it used a Team Match format, with three-versus-three team battles.
And unlike the team-up and Battle Royal Mode rules of previous Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments, WRGP's Team Match rules were quite unique, resembling a relay race.
Each team sent out three contestants. Once the first contestant lost, the second took over. The three members each had their own independent 4,000 Life Points. The replacement contestant inherited all cards the first contestant had left On the Field, but could not inherit Graveyard resources.
And because it was a relay format, as long as the contestant was not in the final round, there was still a window to act even after losing and having their Life Points reduced to zero.
