Boom!
Random Duelist A: "Aaargh!"
President Kaiba: "Hahahaha—"
Boom!
Random Duelist B: "Aaargh!"
President Kaiba: "Hahahaha—"
Boom! Boom! Boom!
"..."
Kira stood outside the door, looking at the Dark Duelists sprawled all over the bar within moments, and found himself speechless.
How should he put it...
He had expected Kaiba to crush these people without any trouble, but he had not expected it to be this exaggerated.
It reminded him of when Manjoume first arrived at Duel Academy's Northern Branch School in the anime and tore through the entire branch, taking out nearly one opponent per minute.
Whenever anime protagonists slaughtered nameless extras, it was usually this sort of scene. Back when he was young and sitting in front of the television, Kira had once genuinely thought Yu-Gi-Oh! did not require shuffling. He had excitedly explained this shocking discovery to his friends, then confidently brought his unshuffled five-piece Exodia set to duel them.
And then... well, after that, no one wanted to play cards with him anymore.
But it really was not his fault, because they truly did not seem to shuffle in the anime. Especially when the Protagonist Group was steamrolling random passersby—their opening hands were more absurdly perfect than the last.
Just like President Kaiba's massacre right now.
"Tenacious! Invincible! Strongest!"
Kaiba stood amid the Duelists lying all over the floor.
"Who's next!"
Only three people remained standing on the other side of the bar.
Middle-parted Ryosuke Yamaguchi: "Damn it. We knew he was the legendary Seto Kaiba, but we never expected him to be this outrageous. In the blink of an eye, only us Blood Moon Four Heavenly Kings are left..."
Beautiful bartender Kazumi Inoue: "Correction. Three Heavenly Kings. Fujimoto from the Four Heavenly Kings has already defected."
Ryosuke: "..."
Fujimoto earnestly tried to persuade them. "Brothers, forget it. Stop struggling. The president asked me to pass on a message: surrender your resistance and give up on the spot, and you'll be treated very well."
The big man among the Four Heavenly Kings, Takuya Aikawa, suddenly erupted. "I'll strangle you traitor to death first!"
Fujimoto hurried behind Kaiba and made his position clear with his actions.
"Heh. You're the three remaining members of those so-called Four Heavenly Kings?" Kaiba sneered with his arms folded. "You should be a little stronger than the other trash, at least.
"So who's coming first? Or are you all coming at once?"
The three of them immediately lit up at those words.
There was such a good deal?
They had absolutely no chance one-on-one, but if it was three-on-one, could you, Seto Kaiba, really take all three of them out in one go?
"Fine, it's settled then. A fair and square three-on-one!"
Kira almost wanted to complain when he heard that. What the hell was fair and square about three-on-one?
He had to admire the president's confidence. Real-life Yu-Gi-Oh! had one-on-one duels and team battles, but many-against-one was virtually unheard of. The game simply had not been designed that way. The difference in Card Advantage, field presence, and even turn count was multiplied several times over. Under normal circumstances, it was impossible to play.
Yet when anime characters bullied extras, they would casually take on three or four opponents at once, and usually crush them completely.
According to a theory circulating in the Yu-Gi-Oh! community online, anime characters possessed something called Destiny Power—a Duelist's talent for influencing fate and shaping the course of the future.
But this talent was relative within a duel. If one person's Destiny Power was stronger in a match, it would suppress the opponent's ability to perform. That was why important characters in the anime always opened with impossibly perfect hands and won in one turn when crushing random extras, yet when experts faced off, both sides' opening hands suddenly seemed ordinary and unremarkable.
So in this environment, rather than worrying about whether his opponent had powerful monsters or a strong deck, Kira cared more about the opponent's Destiny Power. After all, the powerful boss monsters revered by modern Duelists in this ancient era were nothing special compared to the absurd, seemingly fake-card-level Big Brothers from modern Yu-Gi-Oh! that he knew. Even if they were strong, they were not that strong.
Destiny Power, however, was a powerful cheat that could grant even a pile of random cards extraordinary combat strength.
The simplest example was this: in the mainstream Yu-Gi-Oh! of later generations, a field that could repeatedly interrupt the opponent's plays during their turn with card destruction, effect negation, and similar disruptions was already considered pretty good. And even that often required a long string of Comboing Off while pushing through the opponent's Hand Traps to build such an end board.
But in this world, when the two sides' Destiny Power differed by enough, the stronger side merely needed to open with three to five traps resembling Solemn Judgment that could negate all kinds of opponent actions, plus one high-ATK boss monster to hold the field. Even with an ancient card pool, the suppression would be no weaker than the mainstream decks of many years later.
In other words, while reality placed greater emphasis on deck strength, in this environment the Duelist's own strength was equally important.
All right, then. Let's watch the president play cards today.
Though Kira felt Kaiba would probably not lose, he was still curious how Kaiba would win while facing a threefold resource disadvantage.
One against three—this was an excellent chance to observe a powerful Duelist's Destiny Power up close.
"Duel!" x4
Ryosuke, LP 4000
Kazumi, LP 4000
Takuya, LP 4000
Kaiba, LP 4000
"I'll go first. Draw." Kaiba said calmly. "In Battle Royal Mode, no one can attack during the first player's turn. I set two cards, then end my turn."
The three of them all sucked in a breath.
Was he really that arrogant? Facing three opponents alone, he passed without even summoning a monster?
"Tch, if you're that confident, you'll have to pay for your arrogance, Seto Kaiba. My turn, draw!"
The first to act was Ryosuke, the middle-parted member of the Four Heavenly Kings.
"I summon 'Captain of the Enemy Charge'!" Ryosuke said. "'Captain of the Enemy Charge's' effect activates. When this card is summoned successfully, I can Special Summon one Level Four or lower monster from my hand."
With a curl of his lips, he revealed another card in his hand.
"The one I'm summoning is also 'Captain of the Enemy Charge'!"
Captain of the Enemy Charge, ATK 1200 x2
"I see. Attack Lock?" Kaiba said blandly.
"That's right. While 'Captain of the Enemy Charge' is on the field, you can't attack Warrior-Type monsters other than him." Ryosuke said smugly. "And when there are two 'Captain of the Enemy Charge' cards on the field—"
"Their effects create cross-protection, meaning neither of them can be attacked." Kaiba said flatly. "Your attacks are locked."
"That's right!" Ryosuke shouted. "Next, I set one card in my back row and end my turn!"
"Then it's my turn!" The beautiful bartender Kazumi stepped up next. "I Normal Summon 'Transformable Mechbeast - Gunner Dragon' from my hand!"
Heavy metal treads like those of a tank appeared, with rifles and cannons mounted on either side, while a metallic dragon head extended from the center.
"Although 'Transformable Mechbeast - Gunner Dragon' is a Level Seven monster, it can be Normal Summoned directly without Tributes. However, when summoned through this effect, its ATK becomes half its original value."
Transformable Mechbeast - Gunner Dragon, ATK 2800 → ATK 1400
"Hehe, but next, I activate the Equip Spell 'Axe of Despair' from my hand!" Kazumi giggled. "The equipped monster gains 1000 ATK, but its effects are negated.
Therefore, I equip 'Axe of Despair' to 'Transformable Mechbeast - Gunner Dragon,' increasing Gunner Dragon's ATK by 1000 and negating its effect!"
Her two companions immediately cheered.
Ryosuke: "Because of Gunner Dragon's Side Effect, its ATK is halved when it's summoned without Tributes. But if its effect is negated, its ATK returns to its original value!"
Aikawa: "Not only that, it gains another 1000 ATK from 'Axe of Despair,' making use of both the positive and negative sides of the Equip Spell!"
Transformable Mechbeast - Gunner Dragon, ATK 1400 → ATK 3800
"Well, this much is only natural for one of the Four Heavenly Kings." Kazumi smiled confidently. "I end my turn."
"Then it's my turn next!" Aikawa shouted. "I activate the Spell Card Fusion!
I fuse 'Koala Otter' and 'Otter Koala' from my hand!
A summons from the ancient forest, the power of beasts intertwines at this moment—Fusion Summon—
—Level Six, Koala Otter Koala!"
A towering storm erupted from the vortex of fusion, and a massive gray-black beast strode out from the tempest, landing ominously on the field.
Koala Otter Koala, ATK 2800
"Next, I set one card and end my turn!" Aikawa said confidently.
All three of them were quite satisfied with their opening.
Three against one, and they had already formed such a powerful lineup. It was hard to imagine how he could possibly turn this around.
There probably wouldn't be any White Dragon for a while, so let President have another match.
But no matter how many words it takes, I guarantee this duel will be finished within tomorrow's chapter.
