The first part of Volume One has quite a lot of setup. Readers who do not like reading about settings can skip some of it early on. I am not good at writing openings, so bear with me for the first three chapters~
The dilapidated underground parking lot had been divided by wooden partitions into rooms of varying sizes, leaving only a long, narrow corridor.
The mottled gray-black walls were dotted with patches of dark green moss.
The humming vibrations of the ventilation ducts showed that they were still stubbornly working, yet a faint smell of mildew continued to linger in the air.
Inside one of the larger rooms partitioned off by wooden boards, a young man who looked seventeen or eighteen was slumped against the wall, clutching the gruesome wound in his abdomen.
He trembled as he stared at the white "human figure" clinging to the ceiling like a gecko.
Its twisted limbs hung from the ceiling like a spider's, its nails buried deep in the concrete. Its swollen, pallid eyes had no pupils, only bloodshot whites.
Huddled in the corner with one hand over his wound, Su Shijie could not help but feel regret as he watched the evil spirit before him.
I should have gone to the bonfire party. Who would have thought I'd run into an evil spirit here?
Wasn't there an Interference Device in the residential area? Why did one still appear?
And from the looks of it, it seems to be Aunt Lin from the same district.
For a moment, Su Shijie felt his will gradually dissipating. Chaotic information kept surfacing in his mind—memories of the past, wild thoughts, and all manner of nonsense.
As a student in the Advanced Class who had consistently ranked among the top sixty and avoided elimination, Su Shijie naturally knew what was happening to him.
His will was being dissolved by the evil spirit. His thoughts had lost their restraints, and he was beginning to suffer a mental breakdown.
Once his thoughts spiraled out of control, they would soon dismantle the subconscious rationality layer. When that layer was worn through, his unprotected humanity would be twisted, turning him into the same kind of monster.
That was why "she" had stopped attacking!
As his will dissolved and his various thoughts began operating on their own, Su Shijie unconsciously drew out scenes stored within his subconscious rationality layer, rapidly replaying his past...
Su Shijie was not from this world. He was a transmigrator.
He had crossed over from Earth in the twenty-first century to this wondrous era in a parallel universe.
He had not awakened his memories from birth. Perhaps his brain capacity had been insufficient, or perhaps his mind could not withstand it. His memories had only begun returning bit by bit when he was ten. Even now, at eighteen, he had recovered only eighty or ninety percent of them.
As his will scattered, the chaotic thoughts in his mind grew increasingly severe.
Even the memory of his death, which he had never recalled, finally surfaced.
It was in a white hospital ward filled with the smell of disinfectant.
His father's face, wrinkled and far more aged than before, and the white hair on his head had been painfully glaring.
His mother's palms, roughened by housework and labor, brushed across his face.
"Mom... I don't want to die..."
A faint, hoarse voice that barely seemed like his own came from his mouth.
He had always thought that if he were hospitalized with a terminal illness, he would immediately choose to give up rather than lose both money and life. Yet when the moment came, Su Shijie realized that he had still been hoping for a miracle. As long as there was even the slightest chance, he did not want to give up.
He wanted to live...
Their savings, their house, and borrowed money had all been poured into his bottomless pit, yet it seemed as though it could never be filled.
Until one day, he realized that not a single strand of black hair remained on the head of his mother, who was barely over fifty. Yet she still told him,
"Don't worry. We still have money at home. A new medicine came out recently. Your father went to ask around about it."
Listening to his mother comfort him, he recalled what he had overheard from the nurses earlier.
That night, terrified of death though he was, Su Shijie somehow found the strength to climb out of bed. He knelt in the restroom and lowered his face into a sink filled with water.
Maybe they can refund some of the medical expenses...
Also, remember to burn my hard drive and phone for me...
I really don't want to die...
Dad...
Mom...
"I don't want to die..."
Su Shijie murmured from the corner.
"Don't come any closer!"
With that despairing cry after his breakdown, invisible transparent tendrils burst from his body and viciously pierced into the evil spirit on the ceiling.
The evil spirit, which should have possessed neither fear nor emotion, suddenly widened its bloodshot, pupil-less eyes.
Its twisted body collapsed and shriveled around the points where the tendrils had pierced it.
In an instant, it was completely devoured and vanished without a trace.
An invisible force surged into Su Shijie's body.
The gruesome wound in his abdomen began healing at a speed visible to the naked eye, leaving behind not even a scar.
Feeling the tendrils emerging from the deepest part of his soul, Su Shijie seemed to gain instinctive information and insight in his mind.
His self from another universe...
Was, in essence, actually an evil god.
But unlike his kin, who existed amid the sparse matter of starfields and wandered chaotically and disorderly through the darkness, he was unique. He was orderly.
He was simply too small.
He needed to consume the projected remnants left behind by other evil gods to elevate his essence.
A fusion of order and evil god?
An Order Evil God?
The evil god is actually me?
The gruesome abdominal wound that had exposed his internal organs was restored in an instant. Aside from a few traces of blood and his damaged clothing, there was no sign that he had ever been injured.
Having narrowly escaped death, Su Shijie was somewhat dazed.
The knowledge and information were purely instinctive. There were no verbal explanations or reminders. It was as natural as eating when hungry and sleeping when tired.
It allowed Su Shijie to understand what had just happened.
He could elevate his essence by absorbing the souls and emotions of other Spiritual Creatures, or by absorbing evil objects left behind by other evil gods.
After absorbing that evil spirit, he had completed a Bloodline Transformation.
Perhaps because his soul essence had awakened, he could perfectly control all the information within himself. This Bloodline Transformation had brought him roughly a ten percent overall improvement in all aspects of his physical abilities, as well as a defensive Bloodline Trait that he would tentatively call Tough Skin.
The increase might seem small, but the enhancement from Bloodline Transformation was a noble independent multiplier. As he advanced along his evolutionary path, it would always maintain that additional ten percent, strengthening his innate foundation.
The path of Gene Evolution, on the other hand, was merely acquired cultivation.
The Gene Evolution path was an evolutionary system that emerged after spiritual energy enveloped the Solar System. It was divided into the Mortal Rank, Awakened Rank, Transformation Tier, Evolutionary Tier, and Transcendent Tier.
Each rank was further divided into nine levels. Aside from the Mortal Rank, which focused on laying foundations, every level of the other ranks had early, middle, and late stages.
It was a complete cultivation path with clear goals.
Bloodline Transformation, however, was entirely different. Every Spiritual Creature had a chance to undergo Bloodline Transformation, but unlike Gene Evolution, where every stage had extremely clear cultivation methods and obvious numerical improvements,
Bloodline Transformation had only an extremely low chance of occurring when one possessed a powerful will and experienced a life-or-death crisis. Deliberately creating such an environment usually resulted in failure, and there was no specific method for transformation.
Moreover, if the same person transformed too many times, they could become numb to it, causing subsequent transformations to fail.
Those who transformed even once were already quite rare. Those who transformed two or three times were as scarce as phoenix feathers and unicorn horns. Both willpower and luck were indispensable.
Therefore, overall bloodline enhancement usually required accumulation across generations.
Even though the possibility of descendants inheriting a bloodline was small, and even if they did inherit it, they might inherit only part of it, at least they had a chance not to start from scratch. That was also why a transformation that clearly leaned toward the soul was called Bloodline Transformation.
The overall enhancement brought by bloodlines was a noble independent multiplier, and it often came with peculiar Bloodline Traits, such as this one he had temporarily named Tough Skin.
Bloodline Traits could likewise improve alongside one's acquired evolutionary path. The same trait had the same effect at the same level, regardless of when it was obtained.
In addition, Bloodline Transformation could accelerate cultivation speed and increase the stability of one's genes. It created a stronger foundation, greater potential, and a higher limit.
The improvement might seem minor, but it was a long-term boost.
According to Su Shijie's own instinctive awareness, as long as he accumulated enough Soul Power, he could advance directly and naturally.
Using the little Soul Power left over from that evil spirit, Su Shijie also discovered that he could directly use Soul Power to strengthen a trait's effects. While it did not provide the overall improvement of Bloodline Transformation or reinforce his foundation, strengthening only a trait consumed far less.
The Soul Power required for each Bloodline Transformation would increase, but the cost of strengthening a trait would not rise with the number of Bloodline Transformations. It would only increase according to the trait's innate degree of enhancement, and he could invest as much as he had for immediate results.
Even a useless trait might become promising in the future.
He reached out and pressed against his skin. Though its surface remained smooth, it now possessed a powerful resilience when pressed, and its defensive ability was completely different. He could also feel that this protection provided some cushioning for his internal organs.
Uh, although with guns around, this little bit of defense seemed pretty useless. At the moment, it was not even as useful as the boost to his physical abilities.
Perhaps its advantages would gradually become apparent only after his Gene Evolution level rose or after he further strengthened the trait.
But...
Lowering his head to look at his palm, Su Shijie instinctively controlled himself, and invisible tendrils extended from the center of his palm, continuously swaying under his command.
Since the tendrils extended from the core of his soul, only he could see them, and they could emerge from any part of his body.
According to his instincts, as long as the other party's Gene Evolution level did not exceed his own, he could directly dismantle the outer three layers of protection—their will layer, thought layer, and rationality layer—and devour their soul core.
Even if their evolutionary level exceeded his, so long as the gap was not too great, he could still dissolve their will, send their thoughts into turmoil, and erode their rationality. They were entirely traits of those evil things.
Afterward, Su Shijie controlled the expanding and retracting tendrils with his thoughts and unleashed them at full force.
Four transparent tendrils as thick as arms surged from his back and shot more than ten meters forward.
Upon reaching their limit, they swept and swayed continuously like octopus tentacles as he experimented with controlling their movements.
The transparent tendrils could easily pass through all kinds of matter. Neither wooden boards nor concrete could impede them in the slightest, though they also could not affect physical matter or leave any traces behind.
But evil spirits could switch between tangible and intangible forms. Perhaps as his bloodline continued transforming and his soul essence rose, he might be able to do the same in the future...
Suddenly, after repeatedly controlling his Soul Tendrils to extend and retract, Su Shijie felt dizzy and hollow.
His instincts told him that he had overexerted himself and needed to sleep to recover.
Devouring the evil spirit earlier had not actually consumed much. He had replenished himself immediately after devouring it. He had simply exhausted himself by foolishly testing his limits.
Then I'll sleep...
In the next moment, he passed out and lost consciousness...
PS: Put simply, evolution levels are character levels, trait levels are skill and talent levels, and the bonus from Bloodline Transformation is like VIP attribute bonuses. It is a very simple and straightforward stat system. Readers generally only need to follow the story and descriptions; I will directly provide the resulting numbers. They are all calculated with Excel formulas anyway. Of course, readers who want to get serious about it can calculate them themselves if they are interested, but there is no need. This is a novel, not an academic paper. That is all, respect~
