Taking a church commission was definitely more troublesome than taking one at the tavern. These shrines were forged from precious metals and worth a fortune, so real intelligence was required as collateral. Otherwise, if someone tricked them out of a holy relic, it would be no small matter.
As for whether the priest here might do something with his badge, that was nothing he needed to worry about.
The thing itself was not worth much, and if he lost it, he could get another from the academy. Besides, the other party could hardly run away. If anything really happened, he had acquaintances in the church who could speak on his behalf, so he was not afraid of further trouble.
After accepting the contract, the priest let out a long sigh of relief and gave him a bottle of Holy Water and two Holy Candles.
"Take them. Holy Water can ward off evil and harm undead and fiends. Use the Holy Candles as you see fit."
This priest was quite reliable. Du Pont quietly accepted them.
Holy Candles were an inferior substitute for Holy Oil. Through the long prayers of priests, ordinary candles were bestowed with divine properties. Applying them to weapons could deal an additional 1 point of radiant damage to fiends or undead.
The damage was not high, but it was stable and cheap. They could also provide light underground and reveal airflow.
When Du Pont touched the shrine, he could not help whistling inwardly.
