Background
Du Pont is a transmigrator from a modern world who awakens in Faerûn with a System/player panel. His initial resources include basic spell scrolls, a steel dagger, a messenger turtledove, and beginner knowledge of architecture, golemancy, engineering, and necromancy. 1
His inherited memories are incomplete. He remembers growing up near a desert and later returns to Yellow Sands Town near the Nass Desert, where his father holds the title of Baron. His family had him enrolled as a mage rather than a paladin, partly because mages hold greater status in Haluar and can provide magical and political support. 23 173 194
Du Pont begins academy life physically weak and initially considers leaving, but successfully casts Mage Armor as his first spell. He quickly becomes dissatisfied with the academy’s scroll-copying requirements after learning that transcription consumes Experience Points. 4 6
His System permits him to acquire and level independently comprehended sub-professions without the usual experience penalty, an advantage the author identifies as unique to him. 8 77
Personality
Du Pont is ambitious, calculating, and strongly motivated by independence. He repeatedly evaluates opportunities through Experience Point efficiency, money, equipment value, and long-term risk; he would rather study independently than rely on institutional advancement or patronage. 6 49 129
He prefers the freedom of an adventurer’s life over etiquette, political restrictions, and sedentary academy work. He openly describes himself as restless when confined for too long and favors traveling between settlements, defeating threats, earning rewards, and discovering new loot. 153 198
He can be persuasive and perceptive in personal matters. He helps Boulderstone recognize the unresolved feelings behind his former wife’s hostility, framing emotional behavior as understandable rather than mysterious. 27
His decisiveness also makes him reckless. He is willing to kill threats quickly, provoking concern from Yuehua and her companions that his impulsive methods could create political and legal consequences. 194 196
Abilities & Skills
Arcane Spellcasting
Du Pont is a Battlemage whose spell specializations include Transmutation and Necromancy. He uses both newer and old-system spells, favoring combinations that improve survival, mobility, stealth, and melee combat. 49 129 139 140
- Successfully cast Mage Armor early in his academy career. 4
- Uses Magic Missile with trajectory control and learned Shield Spell for defense. 26
- Learned Cloud of Daggers for area denial and Invisibility for survival and stealth. 49
- Uses Find Familiar, Alarm, and Feather Fall as adventuring support spells. 73
- Learned Fly during the Fire of Knowledge ritual. 181
- Reached mage level 6 after learning Haste and Dispel Magic. 230
- Studies old-system versions of Mage Armor and Shield Spell for their longer duration and lack of concentration requirements. 140
Battlemage Features
Arcane Deflection lets Du Pont react to an incoming hit or failed saving throw, gaining +2 Defense against the attack or +4 to the failed saving throw. Its limitation is that he cannot cast non-cantrip spells until the end of his next turn. 49
Tactical Acumen adds his Intelligence modifier to initiative checks. 49
Martial Training
Du Pont supplements spellcasting with Barbarian and Arcane Knight training, making him unusually capable in close combat for a mage.
- Rage — increases his melee threat and enabled him to heavily injure two fifth-circle Drow spellcasters with an adamantine greatsword. 49 190
- Action Surge — gained at Warrior level 3, allowing a burst of additional action economy. 73
- Ki and Ki Recovery — possesses two Ki points and can use Ki Recovery to heal non-lethal wounds. 73
- War Bond — bonds a weapon to himself, allowing it to return to him and preventing disarmament. 73
- Great Weapon Fighting — his selected combat style. 73
- Weapon Focus: Greatsword — grants +1 to attack rolls with greatswords. 190
- Spell Combat — learned alongside further melee techniques while training at Veronica’s mage tower. 230
System and Learning Advantages
Du Pont’s player panel allows rapid acquisition of skills, spells, feats, and multiclass progression beyond what most native mages can practically achieve. 77
- Photographic Memory — automatically recognizes spells he has seen and strengthens his memory. 190
- At natural Intelligence 20, his learning and transcription bonuses include increased experience from books, courses, and self-study; faster spell learning; improved scroll transcription; improved magical-item crafting; and stronger Intelligence-based knowledge skills. 190
- He can buy or train practical skills such as athletics, nature knowledge, shield proficiency, and stealth. 39 40 71
- His familiar is a snow-white owl capable of scouting through a shared visual connection. 105
Crafting and Practical Skills
Du Pont began with beginner-level construction magic, golemancy, engineering, and necromancy. 1
- Participated in casting an Iron Golem with Pete, gaining progress in Golem Studies, Armor Crafting, and Engineering. 193
- Learned the recipe and casting technique for Iron Golems, but cannot yet forge a suitable core or animate one independently. 193
- Possesses Advanced cooking skill and the Eccentric Chef trait, which can temporarily raise his Charisma by 2 when people who have tasted his cooking face him. 20
Equipment

- +3 Adamantine Flametouched Greatsword of Undead Warding — his primary heavy weapon against powerful foes and undead. 190 224
