Chapter Summaries

Hiruzen Sarutobi fought the resurrected First and Second Hokage as they condemned his failures as Hokage. Accepting their accusations but reaffirming his duty to Konoha, he resolved to stand against Orochimaru and Makoto Ito.

• Hiruzen Sarutobi summoned Enma, who transformed into the Adamantine Staff, and fought the First and Second Hokage with ninjutsu.

Inside Little Konoha, Minato Namikaze, Fugaku Uchiha, Tobirama Senju, Hashirama Senju, Madara Uchiha, Might Duy, and Shisui Uchiha repeatedly attacked Hiruzen Sarutobi, who could not die but still felt the pain. Outside, Orochimaru learned that Hiruzen had died before sealing his hands, and Konoha quickly suppressed the invasion.

• Minato Namikaze and Fugaku Uchiha blasted Hiruzen Sarutobi with a Tailed Beast Bomb, then Tobirama Senju attacked him with Susanoo and Flying Thunder God Slash.

After the Third Hokage died, Konoha’s leaders argued over his successor, and Jiraiya recommended Makoto Ito. Shimura Danzō tried to seize the position and attacked Makoto’s group, but they fought back as Kakashi and other Konoha figures confronted him.

• Orochimaru fled the scene, and Konoha’s young elites and clan heads gathered around the Third Hokage’s corpse.
• Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura called for a successor, but Jiraiya refused the position and recommended Makoto Ito.

Makoto Ito persuaded the elders to send him, Jiraiya, Naruto, and Sasuke to find Tsunade as Konoha’s next Hokage. While Hiruzen Sarutobi’s funeral took place, Shimura Danzō plotted to seize power and ordered Root to capture Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura.

After hearing Kakashi, Asuma Sarutobi, and Kurenai Yuhi discuss Konoha’s unexpected Jinchuriki, Itachi and Kisame tried to leave, but Asuma and Kurenai confronted them by a river.

• Makoto Ito saw two people in Akatsuki uniforms and told the others to go ahead without him.
• Jiraiya led the group toward the Land of Hot Water to search for Tsunade, while Sasuke Uchiha mocked his interest in its hot springs.
• Kakashi, Asuma Sarutobi, and Kurenai Yuhi discussed the many Jinchuriki in Konoha and worried Danzo might cause trouble while Makoto Ito was away.
• Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki overheard the conversation, became confused by the news, and decided to leave before being exposed.

Itachi Uchiha and Kisame attacked Asuma and Kurenai, but Makoto Ito arrived in time to save Kurenai from Itachi’s kunai. Makoto kept dodging while holding her, leaving Kurenai flustered as the fight continued.
