The Herrscher of Reason nodded.
Jogo: "...That's about it, so what?"
"So nothing."
"??"
"Oh, I was just asking your thoughts. You're joining today whether you want to or not."
The Herrscher of Reason finally flashed a healthy grin: "Anyway, your ideals are impossible to achieve. Rather than throwing your lives away for nothing, you might as well work with me."
The volcano atop Jogo's head was already bubbling nonstop, but his tolerance for his own kind was immense. Even this angry, he made no move to attack. Suppressing his fury for now, he asked, "Then what are your ideals?"
"Oh, I want Cursed Spirits to walk the earth openly and legitimately."
The Herrscher of Reason said.
"???"
Jogo couldn't hold back anymore: "Isn't that the same as mine!? You little brat!"
"Hey! That's not right. You're using illegitimate means to seize illegal gains. I'm using legitimate means to achieve my goals! Besides, your goal has zero chance of success, while mine is effortless."
The Herrscher of Reason didn't care about Jogo's anger at all: "Oh, by the way, I just made up the law. Since we're going legit from now on, we'll need laws and stuff. I'll add more as I think of them later."
Insulted again and again, even a Cursed Spirit like Jogo found it hard to quell the rage in his heart: "Then let me see what you're so arrogant about!"
The next moment, a torrent of flame erupted from his hand toward the gray-haired girl.
Chapter 15: Entrance Interview
Amber heard some sounds ringing in her ears.
It was a gentle, yet infinitely sorrowful voice—one she had heard before. Like a farewell before a long journey, or perhaps a trust and a hope entrusted to her. Amber tried to listen closely, only to find her consciousness gradually clearing.
'Wake up! Get up now!'
The gentle voice from before transformed, upon waking, into Black Amber's loud, dissatisfied shout.
'How much longer are you going to sleep? The knocking is this loud and you still won't get up. If someone barges in, I won't go easy on them!'
Seeing Amber open her eyes, Black Amber breathed a sigh of relief, then frowned: 'You've already slept for five thousand years. Haven't you had enough?'
"Sorry, I think I had a dream..."
Amber tried to recall the dream's images, but found she couldn't remember.
If she couldn't remember, there was no need to be troubled by a mere dream. Having settled that, Amber spoke to soothe the person knocking at the door: "Please wait a moment...!"
"You're fine, that's good."
Hearing the girl inside finally respond, Fushiguro Megumi breathed a sigh of relief: "Gojo-sensei just called and said to gather at the Jujutsu High gate, so I came to let you know. Once you're ready, head to the school gate to find them."
"Shier understands. Thank you for coming to tell Shier."
Amber replied.
She didn't need to put much effort into getting ready—just a simple wash would do. Her hairstyle and clothes came with the character card. While it wasn't exactly a permanent 'buff,' she could refresh them anytime with a one-click outfit change.
So within five minutes, Amber had pushed open her door and headed for the agreed meeting point.
"Yo, how was your rest last night?"
Seeing the girl approach, Gojo Satoru greeted her.
"Shier rested very well. What about Gojo-sensei and Yuji-senpai?"
"Teacher here is full of energy!"
"Even though I went through some worldview-shattering stuff, I still managed to get a decent sleep."
Yuji's expression looked a bit tired, and his smile wasn't as bright, but it was clear he had mostly pulled himself together.
"Speaking of which, Yuji won't be Shier's senpai anymore from now on. After all, you two are going to be classmates."
Gojo said as he led the two of them down the road.
"Ah, right, that's true."
Yuji remembered that too, then looked at Shier with concern: "But Shier, isn't this skipping a grade? Will you be okay with the schoolwork?"
"Uh, well..."
Amber's composure cracked a little.
She did kind of look forward to campus life, but talking about studies right off the bat... She hadn't even finished elementary school...
"Haha, no worries. Jujutsu Sorcerers don't have that many academic classes. If you really need help, Teacher here can tutor you too."
Gojo laughed.
'Other me... about the schoolwork... can you help?'
Not wanting to expose herself as illiterate, Amber could only hope her other self could lend some assistance in this area.
Black Amber: 'Fine. Since you're sincerely begging me, I suppose I can tutor you. Those things are easy once you study them a bit anyway. No big deal.'
'Thank you, Other Me.'
Amber breathed a sigh of relief—she really didn't want to be some illiterate pretty girl! And it would ruin her image of Shier as a wife... wait, Shier from the Quantum Sea period... wasn't she illiterate too...?
Neither of them knew much about jujutsu sorcerer schools, so Gojo Satoru took the chance while they were traveling to explain the school and what lay ahead: "This is Tokyo Jujutsu High, one of only two jujutsu educational institutions in Japan. On the surface, it's a private religious school."
A religious school? That kind of thing exists?
'In Japan, not just religion, even cults can operate openly. After all, even the yakuza are legal. Compared to the yakuza, religion looks pretty clean, doesn't it?'
Black Amber chimed in to explain.
How come she knows more about this than I do...
Gojo Satoru was unaware of their inner thoughts: "A lot of jujutsu sorcerers use this place as their starting point after graduation. It's not just for education—it also handles missions and support, holding a very important position in the jujutsu world."
With that, he began explaining their next destination: "We're going to meet the school's principal now. You both need to put in some effort, or something really scary might happen~"
"Scary?"
Itadori Yuji asked curiously: "What kind of scary thing? Getting rejected?"
"Haha, normally that's the case, but you two are exceptions. If we rejected you, it'd be like letting you run wild. Neither the higher-ups nor the principal would want that."
Gojo Satoru said with a chuckle: "But if your interview goes badly, even if you're not rejected, you'll probably have your activities restricted."
"Eh..."
Itadori Yuji twitched the corner of his mouth. That's basically house arrest, isn't it?
Amber also tensed up. Given Yaga's personality in the original story, there was no way she'd pass like this...
With his 360-degree vision, Gojo Satoru saw them both getting nervous and smiled to himself. The three of them, each lost in their own thoughts, walked into a dim room that felt like a Director's Office meeting chamber.
The room was pitch black, lit only by faint candlelight. A burly middle-aged man in sunglasses, wearing a formal suit, sat on the floor at the far end.
Despite his tough-guy appearance, he was holding a needle and thread, making a somewhat ugly-cute doll. And not just in his hands—there were plenty of finished dolls around him. The sight of this big man coexisting peacefully with dolls made Itadori Yuji's eyes go wide.
"You're late, Gojo."
The burly man said in a low voice: "I won't scold you, but I've told you to break that habit of being late."
Those words didn't sting Gojo, but they stabbed Amber.
Come to think of it, the lateness was because she couldn't get up this morning...
"Since you're not scolding me, don't nag. You were making dolls anyway, so waiting ten or twenty minutes is no big deal."
Gojo Satoru shrugged off the blame without a care, introducing them: "This is Principal Yaga Masamichi."
Yaga set the finished doll aside and finally looked up at the three of them.
"So these are the ones who were incarnated by curses?"
Us? Was Shier also incarnated by a curse?
Itadori had thought Shier was just discovered to have jujutsu talent and came along for enrollment, but now it seemed her situation was similar to his?
Finding a kindred spirit gave Itadori some comfort. He bowed energetically: "I'm Itadori Yuji! Nice to meet you!"
Amber bowed lightly: "I'm Shier Fulei. Um... the lateness wasn't Teacher Gojo's fault. It was because Shier couldn't get up on time..."
"What are you here for?"
Yaga's brow furrowed deeply when he saw them, especially Amber. His eyebrows practically twisted into a mountain.
Why did it have to be a child like this?
Chapter 16: Yaga Masamichi's Inquiry.
"Uh... to study jujutsu?"
Itadori Yuji was confused by the question. What else would they come here for?
Yaga Masamichi said coldly: "I'm asking about after that. After you understand curses and gain the ability to exorcise them, what will you do?"
"Huh?"
Itadori glanced at Gojo, but the teacher who brought him here showed no sign of explaining, just smiling silently. So he pointed at his own finger: "I'm going to collect Sukuna's fingers? Leaving them alone would be dangerous."
Yaga didn't continue, instead looking at Amber: "And you?"
"Shier wants to protect everyone..."
Amber wasn't lying. Even though her favorite characters from the anime were only Nobara and Gojo Satoru, that didn't mean she disliked the others. In fact, before Fushiguro's infamous outburst, she liked all of the main cast.
Even after that outburst, Amber just felt frustrated with Fushiguro, not hate.
So if possible, Amber wanted to achieve an ending where everyone survived.
Ah, right, she'd said yesterday she was going all-in to get the Death Core, but ended up crashing asleep...
"Leave them alone would be dangerous? Protect?"
Yaga Masamichi stood up and slowly walked in front of them. His tall frame blocked out most of the light, making him more imposing: "Accidents, incidents, illnesses—countless people die every day. Why does your protection have to come with becoming a jujutsu sorcerer?"
"Because it's something only I can do, right?"
Itadori's brow also furrowed: "No one else can be a vessel for the fingers except me. So I have to do it. Otherwise, when I'm just lazing around, thinking about all the people who died because of those fingers, I wouldn't be able to live with myself."
"Anyway, no matter what, I don't want to make a choice I'll regret."
Hearing his words, Yaga Masamichi's tightly furrowed brow relaxed slightly, then he turned his gaze to Amber.
Even through his sunglasses, everyone could tell that Yaga was weighing Amber's presence heavily. Knowing he had already passed, Itadori Yuji also looked at Amber, sweating bullets for his junior in his heart.
If Amber was going to be confined to Jujutsu High like this... no matter what, he would find a way to get her out.
Yes, because he himself had passed, Itadori had more or less grasped the purpose behind Yaga's questions. But in his view, Amber's answer would probably struggle to match what Yaga wanted to hear—not because he knew Amber well, but because of his intuition.
"Because... Shier has something she wants to accomplish, but she can only do it by becoming a Jujutsu Sorcerer."
Amber couldn't exactly say she was here to follow the main cast, but she wasn't lying either—she really did need to become a sorcerer to stick with them.
"Regarding the orphanage, even without becoming a Jujutsu Sorcerer, you could commission other sorcerers to help with that matter."
Yaga had already looked into Shier's records and knew that her initial reason for entering the world of Jujutsu Sorcerers was to uncover the truth behind the orphanage's complete annihilation.
He continued, "Obsessing over life and death is no way to be a good Jujutsu Sorcerer. Anger and hatred are the fuel that births Cursed Energy, but they also become factors that drive sorcerers to act recklessly and lose their lives."
"Shier will be fine... The other me will protect Shier too."
"It's not just about yourself. Jujutsu Sorcerers deal with death at every turn—not only their own death, but they will also see people killed by curses, even comrades, and they must personally kill curses as well."
Yaga wasn't surprised by Amber's statement, but he still didn't believe Amber had the aptitude to become a Jujutsu Sorcerer—not in terms of power, but mentality.
"Your strength is formidable. You've only just enrolled and have already been approved for a Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer rating. But that doesn't mean you truly have the ability to be a sorcerer. Fighting curses for long periods, witnessing life and death over and over—this requires not only strength, but also a certain degree of madness and a high level of initiative."
Yaga Masamichi pointed out the inadequacy of Shier's resolve: "Having grown up in a warm and cozy atmosphere, your goal in entering the Jujutsu world is to avenge the orphanage? Can your heart sustain you in fighting on without becoming twisted? When your revenge is over, will your purpose keep your motivation to eliminate curses strong?"
If Yaga hadn't placed much importance on this before, then the blow dealt to him by that once-gentle yet spirited youth who had walked down another path was enough to make him elevate the emphasis on a sorcerer's inner strength to an extremely high level.
Amber: ...Unable to refute.
Yaga Masamichi's words left her completely unable to argue, because her reason for joining wasn't exactly legitimate to begin with, nor was she at the end of her rope—she simply joined because she wanted to.
Itadori Yuji also saw the situation at hand. Afraid that Shier might end up confined and watched over at Jujutsu High like this, he intended to open his mouth and say a few words to help.
