Background / History

Bigge was an orphan who was sent to a labor camp at age seven for stealing food. During a fight there, he awakened Blade Heart. He then vanished for three years; when he resurfaced on Dilis Star, his memories of that period were gone, while his formerly thin body had grown into a muscular frame over two meters tall through prolonged training and potion injections. 100

His recovered memories revealed the source of this transformation: a Black Robed Man forced him through survival games and repeated gladiatorial battles. Before each arena fight, Bigge was fed body-strengthening potions, then body-repair potions afterward, producing his abnormal physical growth and conditioning him for lethal combat. 219

After losing a restaurant job and going hungry at Dilis Star’s harbor, Bigge met Gu Ding and Liliath. Gu Ding fed him egg fried rice aboard the crew’s spaceship, while Liliath noticed his interest in cooking. He accepted their offer to become the crew’s chef. 100

During a later confrontation with the Red-Eyed Man—an embodiment of his forgotten, more ruthless past—Bigge chose his identity as a chef and protector of his friends over being replaced. The Darkness Blade Spirit sacrificed itself to restore him, allowing Bigge to defeat the Red-Eyed Man and move beyond his past. 221
