In a suite at a five-star luxury hotel in Hangcheng, Wu Tianyu sat in a bathrobe with a laptop in his arms, browsing through the company's financial reports.
Beside him sat a female idol group member from South Korea.
She was Chinese and had gone to South Korea as a trainee several years ago. She had only recently debuted and was currently at the height of her popularity.
This aloof goddess in the public eye was also wearing nothing but a bathrobe. A fawning smile hung on her face, and beside her was a fruit platter filled with freshly washed, glistening grapes.
"Young Master Wu, have some grapes." The idol group member, known for her icy persona, smiled sweetly as she held a grape to Wu Tianyu's lips.
Wu Tianyu ignored her, staring at the computer screen with a deep frown.
"Ring, ring, ring~" The sudden phone call interrupted Wu Tianyu's thoughts.
The moment the idol group member heard the ringtone, she grabbed the phone and handed it to Wu Tianyu.
Wu Tianyu answered the call, and Guo Yuan's voice came through the receiver. "Hello, is this President Wu Tianyu?"
"This is he. And you are?"
"Hello, President Wu. I'm Guo Yuan, a shareholder of Longcheng Biology."
By invoking Longcheng Biology's name, Guo Yuan was essentially borrowing its prestige. Since he wanted to acquire a company, he had to demonstrate his financial strength somehow. Longcheng Biology was, after all, a listed company.
The identity of a listed company's shareholder should be enough to draw some of Wu Tianyu's attention.
Wu Tianyu had never heard of Longcheng Biology before, but half a month ago, Longcheng Biology had occupied the trending searches for an entire week. It would have been hard for him not to know about it.
Still, Wu Tianyu found it rather baffling that a Longcheng Biology shareholder was calling him.
"Longcheng Biology? Our family doesn't seem to have any business in biopharmaceuticals, does it?" Wu Tianyu asked with a puzzled expression.
"President Wu, you misunderstand. I'm not calling about Xinglong Steel, but Tianyu Technology."
Wu Tianyu's eyes lit up. "Tianyu Technology? You've taken an interest in Tianyu Technology's unfinished intelligent engine?"
Wu Tianyu had guessed your purpose, but there was no need to worry. He had sought out many of the industry's top technical experts, and none of them had been able to develop the core code suitable for his intelligent engine within a few years.
Wu Tianyu had previously approached several major companies about selling off the framework of the intelligent engine, but because of the core code issue, no one had been willing to acquire it. In Wu Tianyu's eyes, the project no longer had any future.
He had been looking for some sucker to take it off his hands and recover as much of his losses as possible. Your call was a timely gift to him.
After hearing the narrator's words, Guo Yuan felt much more at ease. He smiled and said, "That's right, President Wu. I'm interested in your company's intelligent engine."
"Can Mr. Guo complete the intelligent engine's core code?" Wu Tianyu asked probingly.
"Well... to be honest, I'm not very confident, but I'd like to give it a try."
Wu Tianyu was somewhat disappointed. So he was just a gambler. What he wanted most right now was for someone to truly complete the intelligent engine's core code. He would even be willing to pay a hefty price to buy that code.
Because even now, Wu Tianyu believed that his decision to enter the internet industry had been the right one. Once the intelligent engine was successfully developed, he would be able to claim a share of the internet industry.
Unfortunately, Guo Yuan had not come with the code. He was merely a gambler. Wu Tianyu had already lost one gamble—an entire fifty million—and he had no desire to gamble again.
Of course, Wu Tianyu would not simply take Guo Yuan at his word either. He had already decided that he would have someone investigate Guo Yuan later.
Wu Tianyu's thoughts were all relayed back to Guo Yuan by the narrator.
Guo Yuan smiled. He was not afraid of Wu Tianyu investigating him.
"Mr. Guo, how about this? We won't get anywhere discussing an acquisition over the phone. Come to Tianyu Technology at ten o'clock the morning after tomorrow, and we can sit down and talk."
"Alright! Then I'll see you the day after tomorrow, President Wu." With that, Guo Yuan hung up.
Wu Tianyu opened WeChat, asked a friend to help investigate Guo Yuan, then tossed his phone aside and shut his laptop.
He had just been reviewing the company's financial reports, but now that someone was willing to take the project off his hands, there was no need to look at them anymore.
Wu Tianyu pulled the idol group member into his arms and asked, "Do you want me to promote you?"
The idol group member nodded.
"Then it depends on what you can do."
The idol group member immediately understood.
That night, the luxury suite was filled with boundless springtime.
At noon the next day, Wu Tianyu received a call from his friend while having lunch downstairs with the idol group member.
"Brother Wu, I've got the man figured out."
"What did you find?"
"Guo Yuan is twenty-four this year and graduated from the Tokyo University School of Medicine. His father is a Chief Physician at a top-tier hospital in Bingzhou, while his mother is an elementary school music teacher.
He holds fifteen percent of Longcheng Biology's shares. They were likely transferred to him by Longcheng Biology's current chairwoman, Lin Yumo. Their relationship is unclear, but they appear to be a couple.
Oh, right. He's also a somewhat well-known mystery writer and has won the Edogawa Ranpo Award."
After hearing his friend's report, Wu Tianyu was baffled. How had a medical student and mystery writer obtained fifteen percent of Longcheng Biology's shares?
Could he be living off a woman?
But if living off a woman could get him fifteen percent of a listed company's shares, then that was an incredibly lucrative arrangement. Even Wu Tianyu wanted in on it.
And why would a medical student be interested in an intelligent engine?
"Does he know programming?" Wu Tianyu asked.
"Probably. He has financial dealings with several software development companies. Judging by the amounts, he likely helps those small companies with some simple projects."
"What about his financial resources? Setting aside those fifteen percent of shares, how much liquid capital does he have?"
"I only found that he has more than 1.5 million in the stock market. I couldn't investigate his other funds."
"1.5 million in the stock market? If he can put 1.5 million into stocks, he should have around ten million on hand. Looks like this company can recover some of its losses," Wu Tianyu muttered to himself.
