Background / History

The Sun Moon Empire is distinguished from the three original Douluo empires by its advanced Soul Tool industry. Its capital, Ming Capital, is a prosperous metropolis whose confidence is reflected in its lack of city walls; its lights are described as rivaling the night sky. The Nine Treasures City was later modeled after it. 7 217

Its geographic position gives it access to maritime offensives against the Heaven Dou Empire, while its only clear land border is with the Star Luo Empire. The other empires regard its Soul Engineer Legions as a threat they can only resist through cooperation. 123

Before the continental war, elements within the empire openly viewed unification as inevitable. Elder Ma described the empire's “Hand of the Nation’s Protector” as a force no individual or faction could withstand, while Xiao Hongchen acknowledged that the empire lacked enough top-tier individual combatants. 147

The empire’s position was weakened after its imperial palace and two major armories were struck during the earlier conflict. The loss of stored Soul Tools, Fixed Soul Guidance Cannon Shells, and Long Xiaoyao made the leadership more wary of beginning a full-scale war. 348

Major Arcs

Prelude to War

The empire initially sued for peace after suffering material losses and losing its former front-line advantage. Outside observers estimated its chance of victory in a full war at only thirty percent because of the combined opposition of Di Tian, the Nine Treasures Glazed Tile Sect, Shrek Academy, and the Body Sect. 376

Xu Tianran nevertheless collaborated with the Holy Spirit Cult’s Soul Hunt Operation, providing six Level 9 Soul Engineers and arranging for forces to infiltrate the other empires in smaller units. 377 The operation and the destruction of Nine Treasures City gave the other powers justification to form an alliance against Sun Moon. 411 422 446

Opening Offensive

The empire used the deaths of its envoys in the “Sun Moon Poisoning Case” as a pretext for war, although Chen Junting recognized that its true objective was an offensive against the Heaven Dou Empire. 450

The Evil Monarch Soul Engineer Corps struck through the Far North Land, captured Far North City in roughly half an hour, and rapidly seized multiple northern cities. 451 The navy simultaneously prepared to exploit the diversion by attacking coastal cities and establishing a maritime route for reinforcements. 452 453

At the height of its campaign, the empire had captured nearly half of the Heaven Dou Empire’s coastal cities and deployed approximately 150,000 troops, including four Soul Engineer Corps and two Beast King-tier corps. 473

Defeat at Gara Pass

The Dreadclaw and Fire Phoenix Legions suffered major losses before Gara Pass, with the Fire Phoenix Legion destroyed and the Dreadclaw Legion severely weakened. 475 479

The Sun Moon Army’s Soul Guidance Formation was destroyed during the counterattack. Kong Deming attempted to organize a withdrawal, but the army collapsed under attacks from Heaven Dou forces and the arrival of reinforcements through Gu Tianchen’s Void Gate. 477

Kong Deming and other high-level Soul Engineers covered the retreat, but an estimated seventy to eighty percent of the army was killed, buried, or captured at Gara Pass. 478

Mingdou Mountain Range Campaign

Rather than continue losing ground in Heaven Dou, Xu Tianran redirected the empire’s focus toward the Star Luo Empire. Several Level 9 Fixed Soul Guidance Cannon Shells struck the Mingdou Mountain Range, catching the Star Luo border army unprepared. 479

The empire deployed four Soul Engineer Legions, the Imperial Dragon Soul Engineer Legion, Mingde Hall personnel, and Holy Spirit Cult Titled Douluo. Its operation was designed as an open trap to force White Tiger Duke Dai Hao into battle. 480

The campaign initially secured aerial superiority and overwhelmed Star Luo defenses, but the empire’s forces later faced sustained counterattacks, loss of air control, and the appearance of powerful formations and Titled Douluo. 480 488 490

Collapse and Treaty

Following the aerial assault on Ming Capital and Xu Tianran’s death, the Sun Moon Army’s morale and command structure disintegrated. The Star Luo Army crossed into Sun Moon territory and annihilated much of the retreating force. 526 537

Kong Deming withdrew remaining forces from the Heaven Dou front and prepared Dongyang City for a defensive war. 538

At the Dongyang City peace talks, Kong Deming accepted a punitive treaty to preserve the empire. Its terms included ceding occupied cities and five prosperous coastal cities to each victorious empire, opening mineral resources for one hundred years, paying one trillion Gold Soul Coins to each empire over ten years, reducing troop numbers to one-fifth of prewar levels, limiting Soul Engineer and Soul Master Legions, and surrendering naval warships. 545

Recovery Efforts

With Kong Deming’s support, Meng Hongchen stabilized the court and punished traitors while awaiting confirmation of the Xu bloodline carried by her child. 547

Later, the empire cooperated with Dai Hao during the renewed Star Luo conflict. In exchange for military support, it sought the return of several former northern stronghold cities ceded to Star Luo after the war. 625
