The room was large, but there was only one bed.
Chen Mo was the sort who had lust but no nerve. If he had been a little bolder, Yun Yun might already have started her ten-month leave.
"You take the bed. I'll sleep on the floor," Chen Mo said, suppressing the fire in his heart.
Nalan Yanran gave a barely audible "Mm."
Ever since Chen Mo had rented this room and she had followed him without refusing, she had already anticipated what might happen tonight.
"Want a drink before bed?" Chen Mo had already made up his bedding on the floor. He took out a jug of wine he had bought at a tavern in Black Rock City from his Storage Ring.
"O-okay." Nalan Yanran came to her senses. Was this about to begin?
There was a set of drinking utensils in the room. Chen Mo poured Nalan Yanran a cup, and she did not refuse. Unable to hold her liquor, her cheeks reddened after only a few light sips.
Nalan Yanran held her cup and gently sipped from it, looking utterly captivating. Gazing at her beautiful face so close at hand, the flames Chen Mo had suppressed rose up once more.
Nalan Yanran soon noticed Chen Mo's gaze. That naked look frightened her. Though she had long prepared herself for what might happen, at this critical moment, she began to waver again.
A cool breeze blew in through the window, making the candle flame sway. Before long, the wine in the jug was nearly gone.
As they said, wine gave men courage.
Looking at Nalan Yanran's tender, enticing red lips, Chen Mo leaned in before he could control himself.
Soon, Nalan Yanran's weak cry turned into muffled whimpers, as though something had covered her mouth...
The next morning, as the first rays of dawn fell upon the earth, Chen Mo helped Nalan Yanran, who had sprained her ankle, out of the tavern early.
Chen Mo never could have imagined that merely kissing her would somehow end with her spraining her ankle.
It made the things that were supposed to come next impossible to continue.
What a sin.
Seeing this, the innkeeper who had rented the room to the two of them the previous night sighed. "Young people these days really know how to have fun."
Because Nalan Yanran had sprained her ankle, she could only ride one Green Beak Eagle with Chen Mo, while the other followed behind them.
The former bore a weight no eagle its age should have had to bear.
To keep Nalan Yanran safe and prevent her from falling from the sky, Chen Mo wrapped an arm around her slender waist. He definitely was not taking advantage of her.
Nalan Yanran struggled for a while. When she failed to break free, she turned back and glared at Chen Mo, her eyes seeming to say, Keep your hand in line.
However, she did not struggle further and allowed Chen Mo to hold her. Unconsciously recalling what had happened the night before, her cheeks flushed red.
The Green Beak Eagles were truly fast. After roughly two and a half days, they arrived at a city near the Tagor Great Desert.
Desert City.
Because it was close to the desert, the weather here was rather dry and scorching. The entire city seemed to sit inside a furnace, making the two, who had come to Desert City for the first time, extremely uncomfortable.
When they reached the city gates, perhaps because they were not wearing the robes of Misty Cloud Sect disciples, or perhaps because Desert City was heavily guarded to begin with, they underwent a thorough interrogation.
Only after paying the expensive entry tax did the guards allow them into the city.
Elsewhere.
Snake People Tribe.
The leaders of the eight great Snake People Tribes gathered within a luxurious hall.
"Yue Mei, what exactly happened? Why did you issue three consecutive warning orders? Were those humans that strong?" Mo Bas asked.
"One Dou Emperor, three Dou Wangs, and four Dou Lings. I encountered them last night. They were very strong." Yue Mei sighed softly and straightened her waist. "I fled in defeat."
"So many human experts gathered together—what are they trying to do? Start a war with our Snake People Tribe?" Mo Bas said gravely.
"From what I heard, they seemed to be looking for Her Majesty the Queen."
"Then..."
"I notified Her Majesty the Queen, and she told me to inform all of you."
"What do we do now?"
"Let's deploy our defenses first."
"Gu Tu, it should be here, right?" After searching through most of the city, Chen Mo stood outside the largest map shop, feeling somewhat uncertain.
With that uncertainty in mind, the two slowly entered the shop. There were not many people inside, and it was cold and deserted.
Chen Mo immediately began searching for the owner of the shop, one of the former Ten Great Experts, Ice Emperor Hai Bodong.
He was not difficult to find. Chen Mo's gaze soon settled on the old man behind the counter, dressed in a sea-blue robe and arranging map scrolls.
According to the novel's description, Ice Emperor Hai Bodong had been afflicted by Queen Medusa's Snake Seal. His body had rapidly aged, and even his strength had been sealed at the Dou Ling level.
Chen Mo examined him closely. Even Nalan Yanran, who had been curiously surveying the shop, looked over.
"He's just a decrepit old man. What's so interesting about him?"
"Do you need something?" Hai Bodong sensed that the gaze lingering on him had not left. Clearly, this was not someone who had come to buy a map. Without turning around, he spoke.
"I'm trying to determine whether you are someone I'm looking for." Chen Mo lightly tapped the counter with his fingers.
Hai Bodong's hands paused as he arranged the maps. He turned around, swept his cloudy eyes over Chen Mo, and after confirming that he had never seen him before, replied, "I'm afraid you have the wrong person."
After saying that, he was about to turn back and continue arranging the maps when Nalan Yanran walked over.
"Though the aura around this little girl does give me a faint sense of familiarity," Hai Bodong said.
"Old sir, do you know me?"
"You do seem somewhat familiar. Perhaps this old man's eyes have grown dim and I mistook you for someone else." Hai Bodong felt the Fire Poison in his body about to flare up, making him somewhat impatient. He began to usher them out. "The person you are looking for is not here. If you are not buying a map, leave as soon as possible."
"Junior Brother, who are you looking for?" Nalan Yanran poked Chen Mo's waist with a finger, leaned close to his ear, and asked softly.
"You'll know soon enough." Chen Mo smiled and said to Hai Bodong, "Is that so? Is Ice Emperor Hai Bodong, one of the former Ten Great Experts, really not here?"
Boom!
The instant his words fell, icy energy rapidly filled the shop. A faint mist also obscured Chen Mo's vision.
Chen Mo frowned slightly. Thunder Fire rose in his hand, burning away the faint mist before him. Then he said unhurriedly, "It seems I did not come to the wrong place. Old sir, you are indeed the former Ice Emperor Hai Bodong."
Nalan Yanran's whole body trembled at those words. She quickly drew her longsword from her Storage Ring and prepared for battle.
This was a man capable of freezing an entire city by himself.
"Who exactly are you?"
Floating ice crystals filled the space around Hai Bodong. With a single thought from him, they would shoot forth and instantly turn Chen Mo into a sieve.
"Chen Mo," Chen Mo said calmly.
"Chen Mo?" Seeing the strange flames in the youth's hand burn away the icy mist in the shop, Hai Bodong frowned, then said coldly, "This old man does not care who you are. Leave this place at once, or bear the consequences yourself."
