David suddenly realized that all these years, Lena had always been the one making his coffee. He had grown accustomed to this taste; coffee made by anyone else, including himself, was either too strong or too weak to him. Only the cup in his hand was just right!
Watching Lena walk toward the door, David suddenly called out.
"Wait!"
Lena stopped at his words and turned to look at David in confusion. Seeing him set the coffee down on the nearby table, she asked curiously.
"What's wrong? Is the coffee no good? It shouldn't be. I made it at the strength you usually like."
Looking at the puzzled Lena, David gently shook his head and said with a smile.
"The coffee is fine, but I'm not planning to work overtime tonight."
At that, David looked at Lena and slowly said with a serious expression.
"Want to have dinner together? My treat."
Lena stared at David in surprise. Then she suddenly understood, and though taken aback, she happily nodded at once.
"Sure! A new restaurant opened near my place. I heard the food is pretty good!"
David walked over to Lena's side. Seeing the faint blush rise on her face, he smiled and nodded.
"Then let's go give it a try!"
The two immediately walked out of the Criminal Investigation Department's office area side by side and headed for the elevator. Neither spoke inside the elevator, and the atmosphere around them became somewhat delicate.
Lena occasionally turned to sneak a glance at David. Besides her happiness, she could not help feeling puzzled. David had been working overtime in his office every day lately, studying those cases. Why was he suddenly getting off work early today? Had he found a lead?
